A Billion Rising Voices

This is a tribute to all those who have suffered and lost their lives, for those who continue to fight for their rights to live a life free from fear and able to realise their full potential, written by Suzanne Kelsey

A BILLION RISING VOICES

When you abuse me and use me
I will shout out to the wide blue sky
I am a single rising voice
And the world will hear my cry
I will not allow your strength and power
To rob me of my pride and dignity
I learnt from the books of wisdom
About freedom and equality
I am not inferior to you or anyone
I am fully aware of my own birth right
To secure a life free from oppression
We sisters must stand together and fight.

To realise our full potential we will go forward
With our hearts full of compassion, our souls on fire
We are entitled to be educated and respected
And become anything we so desire
Never try to tell us we are not worthy
We have a keen intellect and must be listened to
We are the women who epitomises a future of hope
In everything that we feel, say and do
So when you abuse us and use us
We will shout out together to the heavens on high
We are a billion rising voices
And the universe will hear our cry.

I am now (reluctantly) reitred from my work as a teacher/lecturer which has been a very long and happy career that focused on education, child development, dance, drama and teacher training. I was also a health and fitness tutor and contemporary dance teacher in my spare time! I love tai chi, photography, music, dance, theatre, reading, walking, mindfulness/meditation, social media and learning something new every day. I write poetry to raise money for good causes. I am passionate about campaigning for social justice and saving our NHS here in the UK. I also love my partner, my family and my friends and like to spend as much time with them as possible.
