A Single White Feather

A Single White Feather

A single white feather, I saw again today,
Exactly a year since you went away,
My heart still aches, never knowing when I’ll cry,
I still look for your face when people pass me by,

A single white feather all alone on the ground,
No longer lost now that it’s found,
You said you’d never leave me, but you had no choice,
Now I’m just me and we’re no longer us,

A single white feather is all that it takes,
To give me some comfort because my  heart still breaks,
Little signs you are with me, I’m often aware,
Is it silly superstition, or are you really there?

A single white feather helps me to cope,
With losing my darling and giving me hope,
So, I’ll choose to believe that each time I see,
A single white feather, you are walking with me.

Hi. I am new to this 'world' of same age surfers! I am keen to socialise in any format. I am a wife, mum and nanna. I love to sew, crochet, read and write. I also visit the pool (while I can!) to swim or attend aqua. I love my garden, although not the work that accompanies it-guess I like to gaze and admire more than digging and weeding! I believe in 'Use it, or lose it' so try to be active, despite my age. I love chocolate and wine, frequently please!

I lost my daughter 6 years ago very suddenly , we were all with her at the end and she was a donor to 8 people , she was an incredible young lady , a daughter, sister , wife and mummy .
Everytime I see a white feather I think of her , I don't care if it is real or not to think she is with me , as long as I keep feeling she is , I keep the feather in a glass in my bedroom , they give me comfort without hurting anyone else .
So thank you for your poem , it was a joy to read , it is how I feel when I see the feathers , I have found perfectly dry feathers in wet weather , and I once found a in my house , no where near my jar of feathers ( which as a lid on it ) .

I found a white feather lying on my kitchen floor today.I lost my husband recently and I know he will always manage to let me know he is still around. Some days are still very difficult but finding the feather and your lovely poem have certainly helped.

Hello Musty, my heart goes out to you regarding your loss. I choose to believe the feathers are messages delivered by angels, and if it brings comfort, even better! Try to remember all the good times and smile, I am glad the poem helped a little, God Bless you and stay safe. I wish you health and happiness for the future.

I believe in white Feathers too, I took over My Husbands Koi Pond after He died and often find a white Feather after I finish cleaning and tidying the Pond and Filters. One Day there was one floating motionless in the middle of the Pond even though there is a pump and waterfall creating movement it stayed completely still, magical.

A lovely poem but I often see white feathers in my garden nearly every day but unfortunately I think the cats nearby attack the birds early morning.

I was touched by your feather poem Smudgersnan.
I have similar experiences and find tiny white feathers in the most unusual places, indoors even.
Some say it is your angels letting you know they are there and comforting you.
I like that idea and smile each time I find one.

Hello Yodama, and thank you for your kind comment about my poem. I could not agree with you more about finding the feathers in the most unusual places-perhaps this is why many, many people are convinced that they are a sign, brought by angels to comfort us?
I choose to believe they are and you continue to smile.......
Stay safe x
