Gay Paree!

This poignant poem was written by Anna Lynas … it puts life into perspective.

Gay Paree!

We – our coach party – had had a long day in Paris:
Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, the Eiffel Tower –
We’d seen them all.

Now it was evening –
And as we strolled, after a good meal
And a glass of wine

We complained about our sore feet –
And the price of coffee.

Then we came on a man seated on the ground
A man whose face told a story –
Of hard living, pain and rejection
As he held out a begging bowl.

Bending to drop in a coin
I was shocked to see –
Two bare leg stumps only
Protruding from his trouser legs.

And we – who, by comparison, had so much
Had been complaining –
Because our feet were sore
And the price of coffee!

Now enjoying retirement after a busy life. I love reading, painting (or trying to!), meeting with friends - coffee/lunch/quizzes and so on. Member of U3A and Probus. Love it when the sun shines and then it's off and out to see our beautiful world. In fact, I just love life - even with all of its problems. I try to live my life with gratefulness, optimism and contentment. And as someone said 'if you are in a situation which can't be changed, then the only thing you CAN change is your attitude. Very wise. So here's to the next 100 years!!!!
