The Telephone call

The Telephone call

Hello there it’s me your Dad
Wanted to tell you about the good week I’ve had
Made myself a member at the local bowls club
Well now I’m retired it’ll be just the job

I’ve bought my woods and all of the gear
It wasn’t too cheap…. in fact quite dear
What’s that Son….. No I’ve money enough
Can’t walk on the green looking a scruff

I’ve been helping the ladies lay tables of eight
Eight cups and saucers and eight side plates
Why do we do that?..Well for our cups of tea
Or if you are awkward…. coffee like me

We also have biscuits or a nice slice of cake
Promised I’ll make fruit cake next time I bake
Who did we play? Oh Moreton in Marsh
The weather was awful, really quite harsh

Everyone wore their wet weather coats
We beat ’em quite easy, Chippy don’t gloat!!
Why do you play in all of the rain?
To be honest a member DID try to explain

It’s a bit like in Rugby, huddling in a scrum
It’s par for the course, they tell me it’s FUN!!
What was that Son did I get to play?
No, not exactly lad, well no not today

The ladies were charming and friendly to me
So they went to play while I made the tea
