The Unforgiven

The news is pretty grim at the moment one way and another, so here’s something to make you laugh.

This is my way of dealing with a situation which has the potential to make me feel ‘Not OK’. True story!

The Unforgiven

Walking along the seafront ,
Met a friend we hadn’t seen
For at least three years, maybe four.
Yes, it must have been.
He was with a few of his mates
We stopped and said ‘Hello’
And caught up on old times for a while
Before they had to go.

‘Today is Sue’s Big Birthday plus one’
My dearest said, with cheer.
‘Oh….Happy Birthday, Sue’ most of them said,
But one of them muttered ‘Oh dear….’
I looked at him with sneering contempt
But he couldn’t see my eyes.
I was wearing sunglasses,
Always a good disguise.

I didn’t even dignify
That remark with a response
But thought: ‘You can talk, – you’re much older than me,
You bald-headed, crabby old ponce’.
I can see, I can hear, I can walk, I can talk,
I don’t ache and I’m still active.
In my dreams I think my dearest one
Still finds me quite attractive. (Shut up. It rhymes with ‘active’).

So next time I see ‘matey’,
I will show no fear,
And if he comes out with that line again
I’ll clip him ’round the ear!
