They said…

They said…

They said that hair grows slowly,
That it wouldn’t get too long,
I’ve cut my fringe three times so far,
I’m sure they must be wrong!

They said that we must stay at home,
We shouldn’t travel far,
But now it seems that it was fine
To check your eyes by car

They said we’d be ‘world beating’
Track and Trace from early June,
Apparently, it’s settling in
The Ap will follow soon

They said that people mattered,
That we’d loads of PPE,
That care homes were important,
That compassion was the key

They said they would be honest,
Daily Brief from Number Ten,
They gave us graphs and graphics,
Scientists and suited men

They said WE could be trusted,
That no one would break the rules,
But sometimes I do wonder
If they’ve taken us for fools
