Jerry ‘Travelman’ Bridge – Travel Advisor
I am a 54 year old Brit who is a traveler, travel advisor, writer, entrepreneur & father of six children who likes outdoor adventure, skiing, cycling and backgammon.
I am lucky enough to live 8 months of the year in Wellington, New Zealand. For the remaining 4 months I guess I am your classic ‘laptop traveller’ – working on the go! Although I am now a resident of New Zealand, I still call the UK, home.
I now feel privileged to have been asked to contribute to Silversurfers success to be the UK’s fastest growing lifestyle website dedicated to the ‘over 50’s’. I sincerely hope I may be able to assist you with your travel plans.
Travel industry background
The name Bridge has a long history of travel behind it, starting with my father – Walter Bridge – and his European package holiday empire called Bridge Travel, which he founded in 1949. If you get a moment, I strongly recommend watching his video which tells the wonderful pioneering story of how the UK travel industry was established just after the Second World War.
After my initial travels around the world and a 3 year stint working for one of the UK’s largest independent travel companies, Trailfinders, I set up my first multi award winning company Bridge the World and then more recently Bridge & Wickers a leading Australia & New Zealand and Canada holiday specialist.
Over my 30 years in the travel business I have been fortunate enough to have travelled to all four corners of the globe for both work and pleasure. Consequently, I have gained extensive travel industry knowledge as well as a multitude of personal connections to take you through those potentially headache-inducing early holiday booking stages, painlessly. In fact, I even have my own dedicated Australia / New Zealand travel website for those seeking specific advice about that part of the world – www.worldtravelwithbridge.
How I can help your travel plans
For some of us the thought of travel can induce mild panic. We all know it has the potential to frustrate and overwhelm. At best, we lose hour upon hour trawling the internet, comparing the best deals and reading advice on the best spot at the best price. At worst we do all of that and with the sheer exhaustion, end up booking something that may be nowhere near the perfect holiday – just to be done with it!
Quite simply, it’s at this crucial pre-booking stage I offer pre and post-booking ‘no-nonsense’ travel advice to anyone planning or researching a holiday to Africa, the Middle East, South America, the Far East, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. All I need is a rough idea of your timeframe, interests and budget. Ideally a time of year helps but is not essential as the destination may dictate that. My involvement is guaranteed to save you time and money.
Whether you are a budget conscious or luxurious traveller, a culture vulture or just want the ultimate in relaxation, I can steer you in the perfect direction. Literally.
Based on the information you provide, I will ensure everything is booked with the tour operator I believe is right for you at the budget you have indicated. In many cases, there will also be some ‘exclusive’ offers available to you at the time of your booking.
It is comforting to know you have a professional you can contact during which should be an exciting time of exploration and research to ensure your trip is both enjoyable and memorable. I work alongside the tour operators I recommend and am here to assist you right up to your departure. I am happy to suggest the best restaurants, cafes and day tours in most of the major destinations you will be visiting. I don’t know about you but I think that’s pretty useful!
