Christmas 2023

Christmas 2023

Once again it’s Christmas time, a time of fun and cheer,
Then soon, just seven days later, we’ll see in a New Year.
We celebrate our Christmas, giving presents and the like,
Some great new toys or clothes or sweets. or possibly a bike.

We eat the best of food we can, and drink more than we should,
And Boxing Day finds some of us are feeling not too good.
With all the gifts the food and drink, and much anticipating
Do we ever stop and think just why ‘we’re celebrating?

Two thousand, twenty three years back, a baby boy was born.
In the little town of Bethlehem, in a stable all forlorn.
The son of God, named Jesus, in a manger there did lie,
He came and lived in purity, His purpose was to die.

As an adult, his ministry began, and many came to hear,
The messages He gave us, abundantly were clear.
He spoke wise words to guide us, all through our earthly life,
He gave us ways to deal with all the trouble and the strife.

And when He died and rose again, it was to set us free,
To save us all from sin and shame, He died for you and me.
So spare some time at Christmas to say a prayer or two,
To thank the Lord for all He’s done for the likes of me and you.
