Faint Heart Never Won a War

Faint Heart Never Won a War

Our mothers and fathers..uncles and aunts,
Lived through a time..of warfare in France.
They were soldiers and sailors and pilots so brave,
And ordinary folk..with a country to save.

They didn’t have time..to let fear bring them down,
They just did their best..as the bombs whistled down.
Queuing for hours..for just one loaf of bread,
Accepting that rationing.. keeps everyone fed.

So time has moved on..the years have rolled by,
Another war’s been declared..and we watch the world cry.
This time it’s an enemy..that we just cannot see,
But we’ve got to fight..if we want to stay free.

Take heed of advice..that the government gives,
Avoid all the places..that the virus lives.
Washing our hands..and self isolate,
Could be crucial factors..in deciding our fate.

Young or old..sick or well..we know that we’re not fools,
But fools we’ll be unfortunately..if we don’t obey the rules.
Look at shellfish in the sea..they react so fast,
Withdrawing into safety..until the dangers past.

So we must have the courage..to fight this unseen foe,
We may not like the method..but for now we must lie low.
If you’re feeling scared and anxious..just keep hope afloat,
Remember people everywhere..are all in the same boat.

Keep in touch with loved ones..by internet or phone,
By doing so occasionally..you won’t feel you’re alone.
Keep calm and carry on..don’t get bogged down with the news,
Play catch up with it once a day..you don’t need hours of blues.

If we use our common sense..and when the future rears its head,
We’ll be proud of our achievement..that stopped the virus dead.
So come on everybody..young or old..or rich or poor,
Let’s fight this unseen enemy..faint heart never won a war.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
