Regrets

Regrets

I always said,
I never could,
Keep you trapped,
Within a cage.

Like a gilded bird,
With golden wings,
And sad, sad eyes,
I had to set you free.

But now I know,
Deep down inside,
The price,
I had to pay,

So looking back,
I’ve changed my mind,
What I’d do now,
To keep you safe,

Is build a bigger cage.
