Yes, you can wear leopard print …. grrrr!

Leopard print prowled the catwalk again this season and is no longer a fashion faux-pas once you’ve turned 50.

Here’s how to wear your wild side in style – and avoid turning yourself into an endangered species that, frankly, no one would want to save.

Only wear one leopard print item at a time: more than that, and you risk looking like you’re trying to mate with yourself.

The modern way to wear animal print is to play down accessories: team with neutral colours and soft outlines for daytime, or, for evening, a classic black heel and clutch bag. Bear in mind that any accessory that is vinyl, thigh-high or fringed is strictly ‘ageing rock star’ and should be avoided at all costs.

Animal print, red lipstick and grey hair is a gorgeous look – keep it on-trend and elegant by making sure the rest of your make up is ultra low key.

Keep it classy and don’t show any cleavage, or leg above the knee.

Wear where appropriate: lunch with friends or a trip to the theatre? It’s the perfect look. Appointment with your gynaecologist? Probably not.

Nothing says ‘look at me, I’m a confident, predatory woman’ like animal print. Wear with attitude – and enjoy it!

Do you have a love affair with leopard? Is it a bit too ‘barmaid’ for your tastes? Or would you simply never dare wear it? Let us know!!

I think some of the animal prints look so much better on tall, slim, silver haired, silver surfer ladies, than they do on young people! (Sadly I'm too fat)

I agree with Susan in France too. I used to keep my quality clothes and wait for them to come back into fashion, but that was when I remained slim enough to wear them second or third time around!

I have several items in leopard print, many of which are lovely vintage items that strangely enough, are now the very latest fashion. I was looking at some lovely items in a Prêt à Porter shop here in France and then realised I had the EXACT same designs and styles in my wardrobe, but in a far superior fabric and much better made. And yes, I do wear my leopard print skirt teamed with a plain black sweater - a beautiful silk leopard print top teamed with a black, beige, chocolate or even white skirt or slacks. I've learned that it is a good idea to look after good clothing and don't chuck it all out. Pretty soon, it comes right back into style again.

Yes I wear it on special occasions, usually in the evenings to the theatre or out to dinner. It's not something I would wear on a regular basis as it can sometimes look a bit cheap ,or overdone. Although I am in my seventies it quite suits me, I am tall and can take it off. If I were of the plumper build I would definitely steer clear, and leave it to younger slimmer people
