Teatime at the Palace

Paddington Bear was excited when he was invited to have tea with Her Majesty the Queen
Prior to the planned Jubilee celebrations at Buckingham Palace where he had never been
It’s a very British pastime to share a pot of tea for two
Relax get rejuvenated and enjoy a cuppa brew

Contrary to tea etiquette he drained it all from the teapot’s spout
Ignoring the fine china tea set so beautifully laid out
His understanding host smiled while his attention wandered to a scrumptious chocolate eclair
Which in his exuberance he squelched sending the cream flying everywhere

Paddington lifted up his hat and retrieved something they could share and eat
A marmalade sandwich his very favourite treat
To this the Queen unclapsed her trademark handbag to reveal
Her emergency marmalade sandwich which she always managed to conceal

Acknowledging their mutual love of marmalade sandwiches Paddington bade the Queen adieu
‘Happy Jubilee Ma’am’ he cried it was an honour sharing tea with you
