Images imagined

Images imagined

I look at familiar places in old photographs on line
hoping to see someone I knew who lived there around that time
Captured in a picture taken so long ago
in hometown city streets whose names I used to know

Viewing throngs of shoppers escaping from the rain
passing department stores and boutiques now gone never to be seen again
Checking the reflections caught in a shop window pane
of people who’d briefly paused then continued on again

I longed to see my friend and I caught in a cameras eye
laughing together out city shopping as we sauntered by
Caught up with the crowd as it moved along
chatting perhaps about the latest style or our favourite song

Snapped in the bloom of our glory days
forever young in that moment cherished for always
I realise those precious kodak moments I will only find
stored in the memory cards filed inside my mind
