Sweet Memories

Sweet memories

Sometimes when I’m with my kids who are adults now

I catch a glimpse of yesterday in a smile or knitted brow

The little face I fondly kissed appears and then it’s gone

Just like a memory remembered in a song

An inflection in their voice like an echo from the past

Conjures thoughts of their childhood days when time flew by so fast

The hands I held protectively still look the same to me

That once held dolls and model cars wear rings of matrimony

These flashbacks are so precious when they do occur

As my life moves on now often in a blur

Looking back I give thanks for the gift of motherhood

Those happy days I’d revisit if only that I could
