The Dawn Chorus

The Dawn Chorus

The birds outside begin to sing at the same time everyday
then fall silent as others answer from several trees away
They waken up the crows who caw loudly in reply
joined by screeching magpies in a nest nearby

While a robin whistles cheerfully perched on overhead lines
above my delphiniums hollyhocks and colourful columbines
This early dawn chorus starts before sunrise
as daybreak streaks across the prairie sky

Avian songs of morning heralding a brand new day
another of natures gifts that add to life’s bouquet
