Real or Artificial - What kind of Christmas tree will you have? This debate brought back funny memories to me of my sister buying my son " something he could keep" for his first Christmas and deciding on a silver tinsel tree which came in two halves with fold up branches. It used to be wrapped up carefully and fetched out every year when unfortunately bits dropped off so as the years passed the tree looked more and more pathetic and eventually we had to re name it ' the stick'.We sadly disposed of it when my son left home for Uni.ViewDate:

Which song would you pick that most describes you and your life? - [DELETED_MEMBER]I had a lovely husband for 34 years but sadly he never mended my broken heart from ' a lost love' Two relevant but sad songs I love are Even Now by Barry Manilow and Making Believe sung by EmmyLou Harris. But for fabulous music' Che Gelida Manina from La Boheme Sung By Pavarotti.I cry at all three.ViewDate:

Gallstones - have you had them?Fortunately not Jazzy as I believe the pains can be awful but my dear mom had them donkeys years ago and shortly after coming round a nurse gave her a little pot containing five knobbly grey 'tablets' Mom reached for her glass of water and said " these are a bit big to swallow but I"ll try" Grabbing them back the nurse said " don't do that we have just got them out of you " Yes, they were her gallstones, yuk!!ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself. If you are looking to physically meet new friends it is best to tell everyone here if you are male or female, married or single, your age and area in which you live.I am 78, a widow and live in Walsall so would be wasting my time trying to meet with a much younger ,married man from a distance away don't you think? Personally I am blessed with a number of longstanding friends but would always be up for someone feeling lonely if we could meet locally using my trusty bus pass.ViewDate:

Profile picturesYours is great DANYOU14 but there are lots of profiles which don't say male or female and give no idea of age group.I am late 70s and don't expect to have much in common with "youngsters" so have to miss lots of contacts when no idea of age is given. A photo is nice but not necessary ( I haven't put one on my own profile, firstly because I don't know how to and secondly I don't want to frighten the children ! )ViewDate:

One for the potPat your poem about the tea dispenser hung on the wall brought back memories of my dear Auntie Lil who had such a thing but after a couple of days demanded it be fetched down because of " all the mess it makes on the floor" When investigations were made we discovered she was holding a teaspoon under the dispenser not the teapot!ViewDate:

Songs sung to me as a childI don't remember being sung to but my dear dad loved holding babies who he gently rocked in his arms and always quietly sang There is a green hill far away.It is usually only sung at Easter time now but always reminds me of my dad.ViewDate:

NewbieThere appears to be a number of similar ladies here who are newbies to this site and in need of new friends to chat to.I have two pen friends and love writing long chatty letters but would also enjoy being able to have quick but more frequent exchanges here.I am 77 rushing towards 78 but am young at heart, not too serious,an avid tv fan ( documentaries and reality, not soaps) and always up for a laugh.Lets join together girls and enjoy each other's company.ViewDate:

Who is your favourite British Olympian so far?We watched every bit of tv coverage of the Olympics when my husband was alive ( me not so much now) and our young son aspired to be the person who raised either the white or red flag to indicate the status of the long jump.I have a suspision he thought he would only have to work for a couple of weeks every four years! Thankfully his work ethic changed and he is a hardworking economics professorViewDate:

Just joinedHi Mom26 how exciting to live in New York.I have visited twice and loved it although I got very upset to see space where the twin towers had been.A man was playing a lament on bagpipes and I couldn't stop my tears.I am a 77 year old widow with two sons and a beloved grandson and gorgeous granddaughter all of whom live a distance away so we keep in touch by Face Time.I can't say I get lonely but I feel alone at times so would be happy to chat anytime.ViewDate:

New friendsHello Ellie,I'm Beany 77 in body, but young at heart and always up for a chat.I am a new member of this site too but like dodging about on it to see what I can find especially on dull grey mornings like today.Had a great day yesterday with a family get together celebrating my " baby son " reaching 45.How did that happen so quickly?Sorry to hear you get lonely.I spend a lot of time alone but hardly ever feel lonely and would be a good ear if you need a chat anytime.Take care.ViewDate:

Who would like to discuss television programmes or series?I have always loved television but gave up on soaps years ago.I watch documentaries and a few dramas especially if there is an actor I like.I enjoyed most of Downton but was disappointed with the last episode as it all seemed very contrived to tie up all ends.If I manage to answer one question on Univercity Challenge it makes my dayViewDate:

Do you use Blankets or a Duvet on your bed in Winter?I have a lovely snugly 13tog duvet on my single bed but as I must be a restless sleeper it falls off during the night. Not too much of a problem in the warmer weather but hopeless in winter so when the cold weather comes I use a tucked in blanket over the duvet at tha bottom of the bed.....problem solved.ViewDate:

Ready prepared or whole - how do you buy your vegetables?Almost always frozen and at the moment in my freezer I have peas, green beans, mushrooms, broad beans, broccoli, and diced mixed vegetables. As I live alone it is very impractical to get a big choice of fresh veg as it goes off before I get round to using it all.ViewDate:

Times tables & education todayMy sons teacher was appalled 40 years ago when I pointed out the frieze of tables round the classroom walls was useless asking if I wanted them taught ' parrot fashion' I said yes I was taught that way and I know them to this day.If my son wants to buy six items at a certain price he has no idea of the total because he doesn't have the frieze of tables in the shop.I would be surprised today if my son could recite his tables as I can but I am very proud to say he is a professor of economics.ViewDate:

How are you finding your iPad?I actually retired from my job as. GP's receptionist when we were going to have to go computerised.I had been on two courses but could not make top nor tale of it all.I then happily carried on uxsing pen and paper, dictionaries maps etc until one day it dawned on me I was being left behind so I asked my son to get me an I pad and he was very surprised how quickly I learned to use it.Now it seems the most useful thing I have ever owned and I keep it close all the time.I live alone and don't go out much so I love to hear the ding telling me I have an e mail.Even advertising ones can be of interest and is a bit of contact.I do my grocery shopping on line and get it delivered saving me struggling with heavy bags and did most of my Xmas shopping the same way.How did I ever manage without it.I have to sign myself in to my doctors and order my prescription on line too.I feel I have come full circle and should have persevered more years ago.ViewDate:

Is a weight-loss pill the answer to the obesity crisis?Very easy to say Mercury but difficult to do it your Beta Blocka medication lists weight gain as a side effect and altering your diet badly effects your INR number when taking Warfarin medication because of Atrial Fibrillation and excersise causes breathlessness and a rise in heart rate which easily triggers a new attack of AF which lands you up in A& EViewDate:

Do you think Camilla should be crowned queen?Never, never ,never should she be Queen,I agree with JulieO When compared with our beloved Queen you could not get a greater difference. She is a ' hanger on' and has no qualities needed to be named Queen. She should be satisfied with the title she has been givenViewDate:

Christmas shopping - Online or High Street?I have done both this year again.Browsing on line gives you ideas you may not find in shops and I love the delivery of parcels to my house.Much easier than fighting crowds and standing in huge queues to pay then being told " thank you for waiting" when there is no other option but to wait. -
