you feel living on your own and feeling lonely. I live in a retirement
block of flats and have a one bedroom ground floor flat, so I do have
the best of both worlds, as I can stay in my flat or go into the lounge
if I want a bit of company. I am 74 years old ( going on 24 ) and I live
in Southampton, my name is Terry, and would be pleased to chat with
you if you would like, so have a good evening, and stay safe, all best
wishes, Terry.
I may get to know the real youhaha I think that you are right though
this type of accommodation is not for everyone, I myself have had a
few second thoughts since I have been here, but will not be moving
at my age, so have to make the most of life here, and it’s not too bad.We have had a wet and windy day here today, so a bit of a damp squid for
the firework night, there has been a few going off that I can hear, but I
don’t think that it’s the same occasion as it used to be. Well had better
finish off for now, will have one more cup of tea, and see if there is a
decent film on the TV to take me up to bed time, so sleep well, and
happy dreams, all best wishes, Terry.
Hope I can join in the chat. I too, am 60 feeling 40. Live with my elderly aunt she is 87 but great and so funny. Problem is pretty much housebound, although not physically.. I love crime series on Netflix, and real crime documentaries and dare I say it law & order special victims I hope I can join in your chat x
city of Southampton, am a fair bit older than you at 74, but like you
feel and act like someone a good deal younger.
I love to travel and since I retired tend to spend some of the winter
months in South Africa, have not long come back from a trip to Cape
Town, have been there many times, but the long flights do tend to
make me tired as can’t sleep on planes.
Sorry to hear that you are essentially housebound, but probably not
too bad in this cold weather.
My father came from South Wales, a little village near Swansea, do
know the name but can’t spell it. ( something like Ystalaferra ) sorry
if that is nowhere like the spelling, wish you Welsh would learn to
speak English haha.
Well enough waffle from me, so am always here if you want to continue
chatting, take care and stay warm, best wishes, Terry.
And I am saying hello to beanie and AJ too
I spent my childhood in sa
some don’t, you take pot luck on this site, Yes I was in Cape Town in
October, have been many times, had a wonderful couple of weeks, but
as I have said, may not go again due to the long flights. Would love to go
again but may now look at Europe for trips next year, A cold day here in
Southampton, expect that it is Nationwide, still have the heating on and
just going to put some soup in the microwave to heat up, thanks once
again for taking the time to message, maybe we can chat about S Africa
some other time, take care and stay warm, best wishes, Terry.
Don’t know how to work this site so I’m sorry if you don’t hear from me. I understand completely. Life is short as we get older, but we are still here! My aunt was so active, had a fall fractured her hip, then Covid hit us. My aunt does go out twice a week, but we are talking about a lady who walked two to three miles daily. However, we do laugh, have a cheeky wine and are thankful for family although not near. Happy to chat xx
So sorry I thought you were a real estate agent I live on the Gower very near Swansea, and too have travelled. Many parts USA, lived in Turin, Italy, Amsterdam, Holland but not in the red light district Freezing. here, how about you? Tell me more of you travel experiences, if you have time. X
manager of a block of luxury flats in Westminster, London before
I retired but that’s the nearest I can get to an Estate Agent.
It looks as if there are going to be a few of us on this site chatting
to each other, and that makes it more interesting.
Yes I love to travel, have done since I was 17 years old and joined
the Army, my first posting was to Swaziland ( now called Eswatini)
in Southern Africa, I think that’s when my love of Africa started.
I had a triple heart bypass in 2001, and decided to make the most
of my recovery, so quit my job and booked up to go on an overland
trip on a truck with 25 strangers from Cairo to Cape Town, 18 weeks
and 13 countries later I was hooked. ( Google Absolute Africa if you
want to see what overlanding is all about ) so there you have a potted
history of my travels, so won’t bore you with too much information or
you will never chat to me again, thank you for your reply, and hope
that we can chat again, take care, and stay warm, Terry.
replying but have only just caught up with yours, sometimes things
on this site can be a bit on the slow side.
Anyway it was interesting to hear that your father was in the Airforce
in Rhodesia ( now of course called Zimbabwe ) He must have been
brave to go swimming in the Zambezi river if that’s where he went, as
lots of Crocodiles and hippos in there..
Yes you could have been born there if your mother had decided to
go, it’s a beautiful country, with a great climate, I loved it there and
have been a few times, have you been there yourself? if not go and
see for yourself, if you are able, give me a shout and I will come with
you haha,
Hope you have had a wonderful Christmas, I am at my sisters in
Basingstoke, but will be returning home to Southampton on Wednesday.
If you would like to keep in touch, will welcome your message, take
care and stay warm, best wishes, Terry.
After deliberating for a few weeks I finally decided to join this site, so far so good. How is it you have found yourself here?
I m good and you?
I am in the UK and happy to chat.
It's very hard when you lose someone and you have to learn to carry on without them.

We did have a dog but we lost him a few years and I just couldn't face having another. I have tortoise it was my mom's but when she couldn't look after him anymore she asked me to have him. We live in Dudley so not far away from you. We went Southport about two months. I like to walk along the river bank.
Take care
Thanks for your reply,oh you live in Dudley,no it's not far from us,I haven't been that way for a long time, used to go to merry hill sometimes.
You don't hear much about people having tortoise now they used to be very popular when I was young,I'm 59 by the way.
We had a tortoise but it escaped under the fence.
Do you have any family,we don't have any children just 2 of us.
Where do you like to go for your holidays
We are going to Bournemouth for a few days next month,we like to go abroad out of season like February and October when it's quieter and cooler but still warmer than UK.
I don't work now,do you work,I look after my elderly mom now she doesn't have any one else.
Hope you have a nice evening, from Ann
I lost my mom 16 months ago like you I was looking after her. I lost my dad 12 years ago. I have a son and two grand children. I am still at work at the moment. We some time go abroad but the last year we have had holidays in this country. I like great Yarmouth wales and the lake district.
We do have some lovely places in this country but sometimes it's the weather. I don't mind the cold it's the rain ☔.
Good night
I'm sorry to hear you lost your mom quite recently,I don't know how my life would be when anything happens to mom as I spend a lot of time with her and I don't have any other family.
I lost my dad 27 years ago,he had to sudden fatal heart attack.
I like holidays in the UK also, I love Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads and I like mid Wales and the West Wales coast it's just as you said if only we got the weather.
We are going to Bournemouth for a few days the end of next month and hoping to do some sightseeing around the new forest area.
It's lovely you have a son and 2 grandchildren,I expect they keep you occupied.
My husband works full time at a garden centre, he's 60 now.
I hope you have a nice day today and speak soon
Take care Ann x
I am finding it very hard without my mom we did everything together just like the relationship you have with your mom. My son and grandchildren they keep me very busy there always something going on .I love plants but I don't have green fingers I bet your husband loves his job and he's good with plants.
Have a list tomorrow.
Take care.
Yes I can imagine it's very hard for you missing your mom,
I speak to mom every day either in person or on the phone.
I'm taking mom out today, she doesn't go far now as she's 94 and her health and mobility are very poor, but she does like me to take her out in the wheelchair 2 or 3 times a week we only stay local, sometimes we go to Morrisons and have a snack in the cafe or we go to a garden centre.
How old was your mom when she passed away,if you don't mind me asking.
My husband does enjoy working with the plants and I love visiting garden centres and going to a few flower shows although the coach trips to flower shows are getting really expensive now so I don't do as many as we used to.
My husband doesn't drive but I do but I don't drive on motorways.
Can I ask your name please, and as you are known as pisces is your birthday in February or march,I'm a pisces also, I was 59 on the 24th February.
I joined a local friendship group recently but there are only 3 of us we try to meet up once a month for a lunch somewhere,we are meeting this Saturday,it's a bit difficult to organise sometimes as the ladies are very busy with helping family with grandchildren and work commitments but it's nice when we can meet up for a chat.
Well I hope you have a nice day today, and I hope the weather will be good this weekend.
Take care, from Ann
Just like you I saw my mom everyday we would go shopping together and go out for meals or just a coffee
My birthday is in March just like you I am a Pisces.
I do like going to garden centers the only trouble not very good with looking after the plants that I buy..
I go to a couple of keep fit classes and the girls are all lovely. I do like to keep busy.
Take care and have a lovely week.
Anita
I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far.
It's really wet and blustery here today,I'm going to mom's soon she wants to go to Morrisons in her chair, she just likes to have a bacon Sarnie in the cafe their.
I went to Lichfield yesterday, met a couple of ladies I know and we had a meal at a restaurant their,we usually meet up about once a month.
It's nice you go to keep fit class and the ladies are nice their,I wish their were more classes or social groups round by us but there's nothing only the one floral class I go to in Walsall and they close for all the school holidays.
Which garden centres do you like to visit, have you been to the ashwood centre at Kingswinford that's really nice, not to mention the lovely tea rooms and all the yummy cakes lol
I hope you have a nice day today, take care from Ann
Yes the weekend has been very blustery and wet I do hope it will calm down a bit.
It lovely to hear that you are taking your mom out for a bacon sandwich I bet she looks forward to it.
It great to meet up with friends and have a chat it's something to look forward to.
I do some time go to Ashwoods garden centre and I love their tea room. The other place I go to is Cherry Lane Bromsgove they have a nice tea room as well.
Went to Birmingham today to Ford Dunlop shopping centre it was very busy. Must say not a lover of Birmingham.
Still trying to get around this site it's not that straightforward.
Take care.
Anita
I haven't been to the garden centre at Bromsgrove.
My husband has Mondays off work and we are going to Trentham garden centre tomorrow,we like it their plenty to look at and we usually have a meal at the Toby carvery in Trentham village while we are their.
I find it hard to find my message on this site to,I have to go through a long list of other messages before I find mine,if you would like my email address anytime I can give it to you if it's easier.
I'm going to book a day trip next week with one of the ladies I met up with yesterday,a local coach company does mystery day trips twice a month for 18 pounds, they don't go to far usually within 80 miles they are good value and it saves me driving.
My parents used to have friends at brierley hill years ago and we used to visit all the little towns around the area when we went to visit them.
I like to go to bilston market, it's only a small town but the people are friendly and I usually find some bargains on the market.
We don't go to Birmingham now, I've gone off it since a lot of the shops have closed down in the bullring and I preferred the old outdoor market I think the soul has gone out of the place now and all the places we used to go for lunch have closed down since covid
Are you going away on holiday this year,we are going to Bournemouth the end of may for a few days.
Hope you have a good week,Ann x
I have never been to Trenham garden centre I might try that one.
I have heard about mystery coach trips but never been on one. I hope you both have a great day and that price is really good. It's a nice change not to drive and you be about to sit back and let someone else do the driving.
Bilston market I use to take my mom and we would pop into Morrisons not been for a while.
We are going to the Lake District and Port Isaac this year.
On this site you can do private chats and you don't have to go though a long list. Still trying to find out how to do it.I will keep looking and let you know.
Enjoy the rest of the evening and have a great week.
Anita
Oh I hope you enjoy the lakes and port Isaac, that's where they filmed doc Martin isn't it
We like to go abroad in February and October,we went to the Algarve for my birthday in February that was lovely and we are going to Cyprus in October, during the summer we usually do short breaks in UK
I always go in Morrisons at bilston I always park on their car park and do a bit of shopping in their
I sometimes go in their cafe or debs diner near the market.
If you discover the setting for private chats please let me know, I've been on this site for a few years but only started looking at it regularly recently
I write to a few penfriends from global penfriend site also
Have a good evening, just watching Paul I Grady at the elephant sanctuary on TV

Have a good evening Ann.
Hope you enjoyed passenger
We enjoyed watching Paul o Grady, I've only just finished washing up,we didn't have dinner until 6,30 has hubby was working today, has to work alternative weekends
I'm sure you would like Trentham garden centre there's plenty to look at and a little shopping village in the grounds.
I'm sure you will enjoy Cornwall, lovely scenery and also in the lakes,do you go self catering or do you stay in hotel
We got 2 good deals for our 2 holidaya abroad we booked early when there were discounts available
We wouldn't go abroad in summer be to hot and much more expensive.
We have 3 cats so we have a pet sitter comes in twice a day to feed them.
Have to organise extra carer's for mom also when we go away it' involves a lot of planning when we go away lol
Sleep well, goodnight Ann x
I'm down in Cheshire. Allan
I think I drive my husband mad when he gets home from work as he is the only person I see face to face
Keep busy trying to keep a house and gardens looking respectable and have two little mutts that love walking on different trails in the bush every day with me.
I love typing and miss working.
Our bodies keep reminding us of our age but our brains refuse to believe it.
Would very much like pen pals. Any takers?
I'm in England and would be interested in chatting with you.
I am an active 78 yr old although the winter months I find slow me down a little I hate having nothing to do and cannot wait for the spring when I can get back into the garden.
Happy New Year
Cecilia
