Hi I've only just joined so I'm hoping this is the right place to post this. I'm in my 60's, retired but finding life a bit lonely at times. I am married but am very shy and lacking in confidence so am hoping to make some online friends.

Hi Jessica, and welcome. Have you considered volunteering? It's a really good way to make new friends. When I moved to where I live now after years of travelling as a military wife, I didn't know anyone here at all, so I did some voluntary work which I'm still doing 10 years later, because I really enjoy it, and I have made loads of friends. Just a thought.

Hi Fruitcake13

Thank you for your welcome. I do a bit of voluntary work and have met a couple of nice ladies but I find weekends and evenings are quite lonely. Hope I don't sound miserable as I'm not! It must have been hard for you travelling all over the place.

Best wishes

Hi again, Jessica10, no, you don't sound miserable at all! The travelling was really enjoyable, new people, new places all the time, it was when it all stopped that I found things more difficult. Trying to settle down in one place, knowing I wouldn't be moving on again, that took some getting used to. But, I finally had time to be me instead of being 'a military spouse' and that was a voyage of discovery in itself! Luckily, most of the things I discovered that I like doing are solitary things, reading, drawing, writing, watching films, that sort of thing, so I started to relax and enjoy myself. I've made friends through the volunteering and have two really good close friends as well as those, so going out and doing things with my two closest friends stops me from becoming too much of a loner. I hope it doesn't sound patronising if I say this is an opportunity for you to explore your personal interests, but I genuinely think having time to yourself is a great opportunity to do just that!

Hi Jessica. I have only recently joined too. I'm also in my 60's retired, married and a bit lonely. I don't find it difficult to join things though so I remain fairly busy. Just give this site a go and respond to anything you want to. I logged on several times before I actually wrote anything. Good luck!

Hi Greenpea thanks for replying. I have to say I'm a bit confused by this site, so hence the delay in posting. Do you know if there are any instructions for newbies?

It's lovely weather here today so I ought to be outside but I just thought I'd have a go at posting a reply and hoping that it won't disappear!

How is life with you, glad you keep busy. I do try to but there are days when I feel lonely.

Take care

Well I thought I'd replied to your greenpea but I can't see it. Do you have to wait for it to appear?

Hi Phil where are you looking to go on holiday, in England or abroad? It's lovely and sunny here today and very quiet - a bit too quiet at times for me!

Hi Jessica, welcome to the site!
I hope you enjoy your experience on here once you find your way around....it can get a bit complicated to follow but I'm sure you'll manage.
Don't be shy, just dive in and start responding to any topics that take your fancy. You'll find people are quite friendly once you take the plunge.

Hi Georgesmum thanks for replying. I'm afraid I'm a bit lost on here at the moment but will take your advice and have a go. Hope all is well with you and George

Hello Jessica. I am in the same boat. Just joined shy and isolated. I have a myriad of health issues. My activities are very limited. Would enjoy on*line friends.

Hi rsquill good to hear from you. Isn't it sad that there are so many lonely people about. I'm sorry you have a lot of health issues that limit what you can do. Have you just joined too?

I'm not very good at technology so just hope that I'm doing this right! Have you been a member for long?

Hope you're ok. Chat soon.
