Any Former carers?

Hello, Good morning, I was my late Husband's Carer, till 2022. But if you're in need of a chat I am all ears.

Caring is not easy, and many people do not realise the value of a carer.

I was a professional carer,it seems to me caring for a relative is a daunting task with a lot to learn along the way but if more respite and guidance were available people could be more confident in their role.

Hi
I am a retired support worker who supported people with various special needs laterly autistic people .We also helped families to support their relatives
Caring has many job descriptions but I think we all want the best lives possible for those we care for.Having to navigate social services ,and the health care system can be stressful.
Any advice is welcome I'm sure to today's carers but I have been retired for 6yrs now.

Hello Mandy
I too was my husband's carer until July 2022. At times it felt all just too much and I was exhausted. Thank goodness I had a dog to complain to and the odd glass of wine to calm me down. I am pleased that my husband is (hopefully!) now at peace but I would go back to that time of caring for him in a heart beat, I miss him so much. I learned a lot about caring at that time, not only about day to day caring but how to deal with authorities like Social Services and Occupational Health also finding out what help has to be paid for and what is available for free. I wish that I had seen an offer to lend an ear a few years ago.
Best wishes Mandy xx
