Elasticated fabric lids for boxes

Hi Everyone, does anyone have any idea how to make an elasticated fabric lid for a box. I am struggling with it. I was told to make rounded corners which I've done but then I struggle to hem rounded corners. Do I have to use two layers of fabric but then how do I make a seam for the elastic?

Hi Wobbles
I hope you have found a solution by now, or you may have just given up! But just in case you are still wanting a response I can say that sewing rounded corners is one of the most difficult techniques, because of all the bunched up fabric you are trying to squeeze into a tiny space.
It is difficult to explain without diagrams or photos but I will try my best if you would still like an answer.
Before ploughing through a long explanation I think it would be a whole lot easier for you if you can use a few rows of shirring elastic instead. The fabric will need to be fairly lightweight for this approach.
If you are using a sewing machine, wind the shirring elastic onto the bottom bobbin and use a coloured thread of your choice that will be showing on the right side of the fabric - either to blend in or to contrast.
Check your sewing machine instructions for the recommended tension and stitch size for shirring. Place the fabric right side up so that the shirring elastic will be sewn onto the underside (the wrong side) of the fabric.
Depending on the fabric you will probably need to stop it fraying. To check, pull lightly at the cut edge with finger and thumb and see if strands of fabric work loose. If they don’t your fabric should be okay - most fabric frays.
Let me know how you got on, or if you want to try again.
Good luck.
