First Time Cruiser

Hello All. I have never cruised before but am considering doing it. I would like to talk to someone about what it is like, what the joys and problems can be, and how to ensure a good deal is got. Can someone help me out please? John.

Hi Mar65
Thank you for your reply. I could go on a cruise by myself (a 'Just You' cruise?) but I always feel that a cruise or holiday is always best shared! I thought this site would be much more dynamic than it has proved to be - for example, I thought there would be a buzzing holiday group, but there doesn't appear to be.
John.

Hello John

This is my first post believe it or not.
I did a cruise with a friend about 4 years ago - Baltic Cruise with Princess ending at St Petersburg. We had very different interests and I found myself going to talks and events on my own which was fine. Are you planning to go on your own? It may be fine depending on your personality. Or I guess you can go in a group which is what I'd prefer if I ever went again.
We got a cabin with a terrace which was very important for us. Slightly more expensive. There wasn't much to see except the sea mind you, but it was an extra space to sit. I was disappointed with the swimming pools - I love water but they were on the small side. We didn't do much dancing in the evening. There was a choice of good restaurants to eat in and we met some nice people who we palled up with on several evenings - quizzes etc. Its true that you can put weight on on a cruise as the main breakfast/lunchtime restaurant seemed to be open all day! Visits on shore were quite good though a bit short. I would have liked more time to explore. But I'm glad I visited St Petersburg as I doubt there are any cruises there at the moment with the war going on. We found out about a local guide company which was said to be better than the Cruise ships tour. We set it up ourselves beforehand and It was fabulous. Good luck if you go.
