Hello to you all

Recently signed up, had a look around and found the photography page, this was my hobby before I was grounded through TIA's ( mini strokes ) not able to drive at present, the site looks interesting with many subjects to chat about, so I hope to get into it much as possible

Hello John and yes, a lot of topics. I joined a few months ago but still finding my way around. I too have an interest in photography but find it a bit moore difficult now due to health issues. Still take off in my car and find somewhere interesting to wander about with my camera. Usually the Peak District but there's lots of amazing places. I have started to make my photographs into greeting or inspirational cards. Haven't decided how best to market those yet, just enjoy making them at the moment!

Good to have another keen photographer on board!

Sending best wishes'

Sara

Hi Sarah, I used to do the same thing and take loads of local photos as I paint a bit and use them for my subjects. I made some into cards of local interest and our museum shop displayed and sold them to visitors for a commission. I did not make a fortune, but it was very rewarding to do. I also framed some of the best and sold at local craft markets and table sales, and met many people in the process. I had to stop duringthe pandemic and I have not started again yet. Best Wishes.

Hello and thank you for responding!
Yes, the pandemic blew everybody off course and why oh why is it proving SO difficult to get '.back to normal'?? I have recently started watercolour painting. I was given all the required bits and bobs as a present some years ago and really wanted to try. Each time I picked up the box I just couldn't make a start. I think I was a bit afraid, if that makes sense? Anyway, it lay there for years until one day last year I stumbled across it whilst looking for something else. This time I did open it and just dived in! I suppose it was a case of the 'right time'. Having such fun with it, even I don't know what the painting will be until I've finished it!
I hope you are well and staying positive, despite all that's happened around us lately and, of course, recently.
Sending good wishes to you,
Sarah

Hello again John,

It's difficult, especially when health issues end up changing how you live your life. It really is about attitude. I don't mean being all happy clappy regardless of the facts, but looking it full in the face and saying, "Okay, that's how it used to be, now this is how it's going to be" and just navigating around those obstacles.
Took me a while, I won't pretend otherwise, but what really made the difference for me was pain management. I scoffed the offers of going along to those sessions but one day I thought, "Okay, nothing to lose". Being a rational individual I was expecting a lot of mumbo jumbo about 'look at this way' etc. and, initially, I thought that's exactly what all this is. But, it turned out that attitude really was the turning point. I was proved wrong and happily so! Still have days where lifting a full cup of tea is an awkward, painful, clumsy business but there are other days when it's not and in those days I make the best of every tick of the clock.
I know your health issues are not the same as mine but I can't emphasise enough, just how much of a difference our attitude to it helps.

I send very best wishes to you,
Sarah

Yep, agree with what you said, doing a lot of things online though especially signing a lot of petitions for various causes plus when I shop a donation goes to my selected charity, so all ok at present, my wife has health issues, as well as contracting covid through her work so feeling a bit more isolated at the moment

I guess it's about doing what you can! The physiotherapist at the hospital told me that it's not about what you can't do, it's about finding new ways of doing it. Easily said I know and it took me a good few years to grasp that RA isn't something I'll ever beat (which is my instinctive response to anything negative). It's something I have to learn to live with. I'm clumsy at times (drop things, no grasp etc) but that doesn't upset me now, When things don't work out as planned I now shout (out loud!) "Plot change!" and just carry on.
Some days a trip to the shops is all I can manage but, like many people interested in photography, I'm a keen observer of all that's going on around me and when I can't take photographs I write about my observations.

There's always a way around xx
