Let us name and shame

I wonder how many people find shop items incorrectly priced, something often not noticed until looking through receipt when at home. Maybe we could start to point any such findings out on here so others can be aware. I am so annoyed when this happens as in most cases I have come across it quite clearly not a mistake. Wilkinsons have done this twice in the last month with two different items.

Further re supermarkets. Our local supermarket has got rid of the night shift who checked for out of date produce and stacked shelves this now takes place first thing and at times through out the day again leading to conjestion in the aisles.
The confusion between best before and use by continues to be a difficulty for some people.
Such short time scales are just another way of getting us to waste food and spend money,Use within 2 days of opening just means you have to eat the same thing several times running or freeze some( if you live alone) Cold meat does not freeze well ,think I'll give up on ham sandwiches.

I have also noticed errors and misleading like buy 2 for £3 when individual the items are £1..39.Supermarkets provide lots of other functions over and above the dreaded food shop and I don't mean providing toilets, stamps, maybe an opticians etc.etc.
No I mean the endless opportunties to observe human behavour in it's many forms. The harassed Mum with the tantrum tearful toddler. The wee wives exchanging all the local gossip or bemoaning their latest aliments .Not to mention the bored out of their minds staff trying their best to be pleasant and occasionally managing it.Then there's me get what I want then go ,until I meet an old friend and become the aisle blocker catching up on the latest news,
Then there's the choice of self service or checkout I favour whichever seems as if it will be quickest but it's a lottery .However I have made friends with a lovely checkout operator I think she is Nigerian ,I discovered her daughter is one of Cliff Richard's backing singers. She has such a happy disposition it is always a pleasure to have her serve you.
Another service our supermarket has is a table of second hand books which you can purchase for a suggested donation of 50p. to charity, once you are finished with the books you can return them to be sold again

I always find that if there has been an error in the pricing supermarket staff have always been quick to rectify it. On another note I was in my local Tesco Express last week and was about to purchase some mince pies. I checked the used by date which said 16 Nov as it was the 6th December I thought maybe I wasn't reading it correctly. I checked with a member of staff and he agreed they were out of date and he would remove them from the shelves. When I left the store 5 minutes later no one had removed them. Don't just check prices make sure the goods are in date

I have to agree with that Pam1960. I often notice that people stacking perishable goods don't always put newer stock at the back to allow near dated products to be sold first. Most irritating and they don't have the insight to recognise it can eventually effect their jobs.

I have to say LittleMinx, I do exactly the same. I only want to shop once a week and thus look for the longest dates - that's why I notice how things have been stacked!

I always look for the longest date. I wonder how many people buy product past the sell by date because they assume if it is on the shelf it is ok

Interesting point Pam1960.

Does anyone actual like supermarket shopping whether weekly, monthly or longer? When doing our 'weekly' shop this morning I couldn't believe that two rather large ladies were chatting with both their trolleys blocking the aisle and both also busily drinking coffees - what's that all about?

I don't like supermarket shopping at all so I usually have a list which I stick to so can be in and out as quickly as possible. I don't tend to browse in supermarkets. I do shop at independent stores on the high street for meat, vegetable and bread but have to use the supermarkets for some items. You mentioned trolleys blocking the aisles we also have a similar problem on the pavements with mobility scooters. I like in quite a hilltop area so they are necessary for a lot of the less mobile community but it is annoying when you have to step into the road to get by. The only shopping I really enjoy is farmers & christmas markets

We also only shop with a list and stick to it to reduce time in the supermarket and rarely browse. I still get annoyed and Supermarket shopping is our easiest option as the village shop is only a small convenience store. We would have to travel a about 20 miles (instead of 5) to get high street shopping and they charge an arm and a leg for fresh meat and vegetables.

Happens all the time, even on home deliveries, Ive always checked my receipts. Who does annoy me is the Co-op as they never take down the offers when the offer date has finished. You think you have a bargain till you get to the till and are charged full price.

I asked the Manager in Wilkinsons why something was clearly marked at a certain price when it was wrong, he told me 'customers must have moved them' it was a huge crate of paper napkins weighing about a ton. I am sure they must have meetings about how they can rip people off.
Response from jeanmark made on 10th Dec 2016 15:24:22
Well Georgie Girl, we recently went to buy something in B&Q that was with similar goods and thus we believed it to be the same price. When we got to the till it was rung up as higher than we thought. When we questioned this the manager asked us were we had picked it up, we took her to the aisle and she said it had probably been moved by someone and showed us the correct price. However, she still sold it to us for the price we originally thought basing it on the fact it had not been our fault it had been moved. To me, that is good customer service.

We tend to always notice if things are incorrectly priced. It may be that we shop in the same supermarket each week and thus notice if there are changes. If there has been an 'error' I have always found the staff to be quick in rectifying any mistake made without question. Maybe I'm a little naive in believe not every shop is out to cheat us, mistakes happen.

We do tend to be cautious about so called 'bargains' and check carefully before buying without spending hours working things out.
