Lets get the Photography forum moving!
Watch this postOK then Ladies and Gents. No one has posted on this forum in the last two years. That's just not good enough! We should be talking to each other asking for advice, meeting up in the great country of ours and filling the Showcase with lots of pics

Has anyone done any formal study post school/university days? If not, attending day or night classes at a local college is worth a go. Passed both GCE and A level 16 - 18 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had never used a darkroon before and found it a fascinating experience. Wonder if colleges still have darkrooms?
Have been a keen motorsport photograher - safety and the height of fences makes it more difficult these days. Studying, some street/urban photogprahy was good for some of the themes we had to cover. The camera usually comes with me on walks, so much of what I do is rural/landscape orientated. The vast majority of my images these days are taken at car shows. Much is diary/record but do look for the opportunity to be creative, which is easier if not wandering around with non-photographers.

What a great idea! I'm very much an amateur photographer but I would certainly welcome some constructive criticism of the photos which I put in the Showcase but I wonder if others would. I sometimes look at photos and think that I would have cropped them here or there - usually to get rid of people who stray into the background 🙂 . I still use Picasa 3 for downloading my photos although it has been superceded by newer products. I like the way I can organise my photos in folders according to subject and date. I also have a problem with uploading some photos on to this site as anything over 8Mb won't upload.
nice to hear from you, you shouldn't have issues uploading to the site because of file size. i don't think you could have any 8mb photos, memory cards were smaller than that just a few years ago.
i would invest in a more up to-date editing program, you can even get free ones. you could still use Picasa 3 for filing etc. let me know if you want recommendations. once you see how easy it is you won't go back.

I have been looking at the specifications for my photos which won't upload on to this site and am totally confused - it doesn't take much 🙂 One of my photos, of some foxgloves in a woodland setting has (according to Picasa) a file size of 10.3Mb and 4272 x 2848 pixels and it won't upload. Two more photos, which have uploaded (one of a flower photo-frame and another of some primula viallii have file sizes of 5.8Mb and 5.5Mb and have the same number of pixels - 4896 x 3672. Whilst we are chatting you might be able to tell me how I got the photo which I uploaded on 1st Feb this year of a silver and a blue moon together (look in the Showcase and put CaroleAH in the dropdown filter). I sent the photo, with several others taken at the same time, to Leeds University Photography Department and they suggested that the lens or UV filter were not correctly attached or that the flash activated and that the blue moon is a reflection from a greenhouse. The flash didn't go off but I was adjacent the conservatory but obviously pointing the camera to the sky so could it be a reflection! Which (free) editing programmes would you suggest? I have got Topaz Studio which I occasionally use.
This would also be a great place for your fellow photographers to share hints and tips and offer advice so hopefully you have got the ball rolling!
Love all the photos you have posted in the Showcase already 🙂
Best wishes ... Sally 🙂
