Moving to Retirement Home?

Hello, I am 72 year old widow, no children, living in condo most of my life.

I like quiet and independence, but sometimes I feel I spend too much time alone.

I have been exploring the option of moving to a Retirement Home in my area.

Recently, I visited one where the residents seemed friendly and the building is only two years old, so it was quite nice. What would be some pros and cons of living in a retirement residence? Thank you.

Hello Fest, Listen, I wouldn't be too put off by the pandemic, as I think a vaccine will be available world-wide within a matter of weeks rather than months. As to the type of facility one might choose, it seems to be widely recommended that a place with both independent-living, and physical and nursing assistance would be the wisest, since those places with only Senior residence have been known to literally "put people out at the curb" when they require only the slightest extra care. Ever been on a cruise-ship ? Does the final day of a long cruise ring a bell ? About the same treatment, I think. Hope this is of some help in your decision-making-Best of luck to you.

Hi Fest, Have you made a decision yet? I gather you don't live in UK. This Pandemic has put a lot of plans on hold. It has certainly put me off retirement homes, many residents just my age, locked in their room for fear of the virus spreading through the home. Although I have been very lonely on my own, I to am alone, I could go in the garden and go out for walks. I am now in a bit if a quandary as what type of hone I do need for the later years to come.
