Why 'silver'?

I'm from Scotland, in early years of the 50+ club, and new to Silversurfers. Ok, I'll start with my immediate quest to find why use 'silver' after reaching 50th milestone. In anniversary terms, silver is 25th, golden is 50th, diamond is 75th. Does anyone know?

Silver? Possibly due the expected hair colour change. Glad to say still have mine and the grey is yet to catch up at nearly 62! 😉 Was up at Glasgow last Saturday and spent a lot of time at Slaters: great place to shop.

I think "silver" might refer to hair colour. Sort of euphemistic for grey.

I am a retired Federal Employee with Dept of the Army, in Logistics and US Army Intelligence at Fort Ritchie, Maryland but I retired in 1992 on medical disability because I was in a lot of pain and having heart trouble; and still am but I love to read about the American Presidency and American History which I have done quite a bit.

Silver in relation the over 50 s is about the beautiful silver hair acquired with age.
