The dreaded disease - can you guess what it is?

I’ve written a little non Infectious riddle

The dreaded disease

There’s a disease going round, but you can’t be infected

And no matter how you try, you can’t be protected

It’s not a Corona or a Corvid 19

It can’t be detected and it can’t be seen

It’s nasty and horrible and creeps up on you

You can’t catch it and bin it within a tissue

There’s over 400 forms and it’s world wide

No one calls it a pandemic or a national disaster

But to those living with it’s a true mind blaster

If we could only stop it by washing our hands

Our loved ones might still be here, DO YOU UNDERSTAND.

CAN YOU TELL WHAT IT IS YET ?

I lost my wife a while ago, she is in a world only she knows. I am not afraid of Coronavirus, in fact for her it could be a blessed release.

Hi EdW. I love your poem, I have just joined today as I have been a carer for my husband now for the past 5 years. He suffers from vascular Dementia and Mixed Alzheimer’s . It is a lonely and cruel situation, watching the person you love slowly disintegrate before your eyes. Like you I lost him 5 years ago.. But knowing how fragile life is especially now I have decided to reach out to find friends.

Great poem, good opportunity to draw attention to a terrible disease that we all know about but pretend not to...fear I suspect.
My mum and two of her sisters developed dementia and I was involved in their care. It was worse than nursing my sister, and subsequently my husband, through cancer. The saddest bit was the occasional moments when a much loved person looked at me and there was understanding of what a dreadful fate had overtaken them. Then it was gone, and they were alone in their own world again.
I have every respect for you as you look after your wife. God bless.
