Hi Willhelm

I'm in South Yorkshire but always happy to chat. I try my best to check in at least once a day and look at the chats.

Sorry for the delay, I work in the North and Riding plus Harrogate Ripon and Wetherby areas as an Ops Manager I leave the house early around 5:15 and return around 17:30 to have dinner and then sort my Emails out. Thank you for the Kind reply and I've just bought a few more gits and just hope they get delivered in time with the GPO going on strike.
Response from Willhelm made on 12th Dec 2022 20:22:33 > @AJDallas
As you see above I don't have a lot of spare time although I bought a pretty good metal detector that is gathering dust, I did have it out in anger this summer though when I rented a Villa in the Loire for the family and spent the early mornings before it got to hot looking for treasure although all I found was nuts and bolts a Jean stud and a hub cap from an old car.
I've only got as far as Swansea in South Wales I did some work at Goresinion I think it was called and a lot more recently just outside of Rhyl in the North.

Hi Willhelm,
I've given up on getting some deliveries in time for Christmas. Think it's just hit or miss now when we will get the Postman at the door.
How's the travelling for work going with the current weather? Those early starts mean you'll be getting all the lovely untraveled, frosty roads first thing.
Response from Willhelm made on 15th Dec 2022 19:56:28 > @LLowdell
It's been a challenge in the North and East Yorkshire area Scarborough and area seems to have had it worst on Wednesday . I have three projects up there and one of the Teams who live in Brotton had to get home via the A64 the coast road was shut as was the Pickering road. A bit warmer today. Hope you are keeping well.

Hi WIlhelm, I’m In S Yorks, I used to work for BR and travelled between Scotland and London as I worked as an auditor and was based in York/London mostly, although prefer the north. I get free rail travel, but haven’t been anywhere by train, due to covid in over two years. My single daughter and I tend to drive to holiday parks or camp sites, as we have a chi and a chorkie, our last hol was to Morecambe, wasn't’ very Impressed.

hi Dallas,,just popped in because of where you are ,need to tell you a funny story ,not funny then ,but I was in a chippy in the Mumbles area, it was a very long queue and I was next but one to be served ,when , a tap on my shoulder with a message ." a policeman wants to speak to you now .. I was served ,,went out .and was met by an irate policeman , who shouted at me and said I should have come out IMMEDIATELY I explained that I had been waiting ages in the queue, The problem was ,,I had parked my car with one wheel on the pavement ... Where do you live ?he asked ,I explained that I was staying at the hotel ,as we were working in the area ,,all 10 of us .
the other girls thought it was hilarious ,dragged out of a chippy by a copper ..

Hi Sandie, Unfortunately I worked through Covid as a key worker thats the bad bit the good part is that the first lockdown I spent in the Lake District where we were installing a new water pipeline. It was marvelous completely devoid of tourists.
I managed to get away to France between the two lockdowns just getting back a day earlier before the second lockdown started. Your free rail travel must be marvelous I love travelling on the train but these days it is more often than not cheaper to fly. I've just broken up for the festive season and just winding down with all work at a halt. The last job to close was in Ripon and for a minute I thought it was touch and go wether we would be finished.
I hope you and your family are well.

Hi A,
Name too long. Your story was so funny, if you don’t have a Welsh accent beware! Seriously just joking. I’m twenty minutes from the mumbles. So where are you from?

I was readng the conversations and saw you had missed the f out. Made me laugh as I remembered That's Life with Esther Rantzen years ago reading an announcement of Births out of a paper...this one read " James and Ann are pleased to announce the safe arrival of their baby... a git of a son...David"...

I know your area - lived in Knaresborough through the 90's...elder son lives there with his family now- best view ever over the river and Mother Shipton;s Cave from the Castle...in autumn!
Younger son lives in York...lovely part of the World!

Hi dr,

How very nice to meet you. The weather is cool in Kansas. I’ve been using the wood stove to heat the house. I haven’t turned the propane on yet. The cats love to sit in front of the fire. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Feline Friend…I’m 71 and live with my two best friends—my Star and my Luna. The three of us live with my rescue Great Pyrenee dog Happy. We live in an old farmhouse on an acreage in the middle of nowhere in Kansas. Nice to meet you!

Hi Dennis
Thanks for your message
I live with my husband and our 3 cats in the west midlands in England.
It's not very warm here at the moment,it's now 14 degrees which is a tad cool for September
I have a penpal from the USA she lives in Cleveland, Ohio, she tells me it's been very hot their the past couple of months.
What kind of things do you grow on your farm.
I love gardening and flowers but being in a small townhouse we don't have a very big garden so grow a lot in pots.
I bet your dog is beautiful,I love Pyrenean mountain dogs.
I'm looking after my neighbours 2 cats for a couple of weeks now they are on holiday,I tend to look after most of the neighbours cat's during the holidays, they know I like animals
Well hope you have a good weekend, take care, ann

Hi Again FelineFriend,

I live on 10 acres, and grow a huge garden. My tomatoes did very well this year. I give most of them away, and have run out of friends that want them. My wife passed on March 4th, 2023. This is not such a good place to live alone. It was wonderful when there were two of us, and I wasn’t prepared to be by myself.

It has been hot, and very dry here in Kansas for many weeks. The real farmers worry about their corn and soybean yields. I wish you could mail some of that cool weather to Kansas. I’ll trade you some tomatoes for it.
Response from FELINEFRIEND made on 13th Sep 2024 17:25:15 > @Dennis71
Hi Dennis
Hello from a chilly blighty today,it's actually been sunny today but a maximum of 14 degrees and some rural areas had frost this morning
Our tomatoes have been rubbish this year, not enough sunshine to make them grow or ripen same as the blueberries.
I'm really sorry to hear your wife passed away last year,it can't be very nice living in a very rural area on your own.
Do you have any family who visit you
There's only 2 of us,we don't have children and no close relatives apart from my almost 95year old mom whom I spend a lot of time looking after, I've been with her most of today.
I'm looking after my neighbours 2 cats for two weeks that's keeping me busy also
My husband works full time in a garden centre but I don't work now as I look after mom a lot of the time
I hope you have a good weekend and send some warm sunshine our way please
Bye for now,Ann

Hi again,

Please forgive me for writing again. John Prine wrote in a song, “Everybody needs somebody that they can talk to.” As I age alone on this farm his words are so prophetic it sends shivers down my spine. Yes, I have four grown children, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. They are scattered to the winds, but I do communicate regularly with several of them. I have four brothers and two sisters still living. We are all elderly, and suffer from various ailments. Cancer (which took my lovely Alisa) has invaded two of my brothers. A third is on dialysis and the fourth has had heart surgery, although he has recovered well. I’m lucky in that a hip replacement has been my only ailment. Father Time has worked his magic on my immediate family. It is our turn. Or soon will be.

As I sit on this porch with not a car or person in sight I realize how living in this isolated spot in the world has governed my relationships with my family. While Alisa was alive it wasn’t a big deal. She loved the isolation, and she loved taking care of the house and the porches. I built her a teahouse for our twentieth anniversary. We sat out there many summer nights with a glass of wine and listened to music. The teahouse has been empty since she died. I haven’t painted the porch floors since she died. I haven’t cared enough to do it. The barn swallows tried to build nests and left splotches of mud on the porch ceiling. Alisa would never stand for such things, and would insist on cleaning the mud off. I can’t bring myself to care.

Thanks for talking to me. Everybody needs somebody that they can talk to.

Dennis

Dennis , your words brought such a sad picture to. me. When we lose someone we have lived with for so long, it just changes our whole outlook on life and can feel there is no future for us anymore. I'm no psychiatrist but maybe you could set a day to do those jobs that your Alisa would have done, You will feel better, I have been through something similar. My husband was diagnosed with dementia, he went into care in April. Trying to go on living in our home felt wrong, but I had to learn to do the jobs he would have done - the 'man' jobs and it honestly made me feel so much better. Something to tackle and challenge me. Anyway I hope things improve in your life. Stay strong. KimP
Response from Dennis71 made on 25th Sep 2024 03:20:55 > @KimP4
Thank you Kim. I’m sorry about your husband’s condition, and I commend you for your positive outlook. I can’t find a lot of things to be positive about. I suppose depression is part of it. And being isolated doesn’t help. I promised Alisa I would care for our kitties, Star and Luna. And I have a Great Pyrenee named Happy who is 12 years old and needs me. The three of them are my family now….the family I live with. It’s funny you mentioned I should take a day “to do those jobs Alisa would have done.” I thought the same thing after I wrote the letter on the 13th of Sep. I asked myself why I insisted on wallowing in self-pity. I painted the west porch floor last Friday, and am starting to repair the east porch floor this week. Maybe tomorrow I’ll tackle the barn swallow nests.

The saddest part of my life is the teahouse. It was an “every summer evening adventure” for Alisa and I for many years. We both loved music. We took our phones and Bluetooth speakers out there every night, often listening and talking until midnight. Everything just feels so empty now. Everything is quiet. No one knows or cares about how Alisa and I spent our summer evenings. Except me. I’m considering moving to get away from the memories.

Thank you for talking.

Dennis

Hi Suzz1…I have a granddaughter living in Missouri. And a great-granddaughter. She and her husband live on a farm in the southwestern part of the state. Fall is coming. The nights are getting cool. I hope the trees are pretty in your area. I used to love seeing the trees in Arkansas in the fall. Fiery red. And beautiful.
