Looking for like minded members to chat with
Watch this postHi all, I thought I would join the website and see if I could chat with like minded people. A bit about myself - 64 year old male divorced, three kids, two grandchildren. Hobbies .... self builder, nature, travelling, catching the sun and cooking. I love to cook.
Currently live in Marston Moretaine in the UK. I work as an IT consultant....... YAWN!
How is everyone with the ongoing virus? I hope staying safe.
I must admit I find it more difficult by the week.
Anyhow it would be great to chat with some people near and far! All the best Keith

Before lockdown began my passions were dancing and sailing. If I could be anywhere right now it would be sailing on a beautiful blue sea. If only.
When you mentioned a place to find solitude from the urban environment, I knew what you meant. I count myself very lucky living where I do. I am down on the South Coast with the sea one side of me and the South Downs only ten minutes away. In the summer it's absolutely beautiful and I can walk along the beach whenever I like....well at least I could until last March!! I loved going sailing and would go for weeks away crewing on friends boats but again that all stopped with Covid-19 but I do so hope that some day it will be possible again. Some years ago I spent a lot of time in London and just couldn't wait to get away from it.
I live in E.Sussex. in a flat do not have a garden but after caring for my husband until more or less the day he died (October 2020) I do not feel the urge to go out much but do go into town and have a walk around my very local park. Since the day he died and up to several weeks ago I was very busy with phone calls, arranging 'things' etc Now everything has stopped . I keep myself busy with bits & pieces during the day, now find that I am unable to sleep and often still awake at 5,30am, I have tried everything possible, tablets from the doctor- aromatherapy diffusers, pillow sprays, sleeping pills from Boots, but everything that I take does not seem to 'kick in' for hours and I am waking up at about 9.30 am I have started taking the tablets earlier and earlier! I would love to go (obviously in the future) sailing . Never been sailing but went on a cruise over 40 yrs ago and yes I was sea sick....
I hope all are well with this virus! Hopefully it will be contained very soon! I understand how you feel! This situation has me a little on edge as well!
Tell me what’s on your mind!
You saying you find it more difficult by the week struck a chord with me.
I'm 62, widowed and sharing care for 91 year old mum.
Missing my life before lockdown like crazy.
At least when we were able to have a social life the nitty gritty stuff was easier to deal with don't you think?
I joined here today as would love to chat with people and share stories.
Best wishes, Velvet.

Hello to both of you, welcome/welcome back.
I live in Cyprus, like using forums, usually family history ones, to chat to different people and have been doing my family history since 2004. I am leader of the C3A family history group here in the Limassol area. C3A think U3A in UK.
It's very warm here at the moment. We have escaped most of the current problems by going into isolation very quickly. We are tentatively allowing tourists in including UK at the moment.
My husband and I are being careful and as we don't live by a tourist area are restricting our travels to close to home. Our dog thinks it's wonderful that we are home most of the time 🙂
Stay safe
Pat
This crazy time has everyone on edge around here! The weather here is very warm ok hot! Looking forward to Fall. Need cooler weather.
I still work considered essential worker. A little scary at times, but we have to do what we have to do. Being as careful and safe as I can!
Miss traveling and visiting folks.
Stay safe all!
Hot here due to be 35c or 95 F today. It was 40C 0r 104F last week. This is our hottest month of the year. As you mention fall instead of autumn I assume you are in the USA or Canada.
Hope you are not in an area with lots infected with the virus.
Sitting inside yesterday afternoon we heard a bang then had a shock wave come through the house. We knew it wasn't an earthquake but we were unable to say what it was. My ears started popping similar to taking off or landing when flying. A little while later we realised our island of Cyprus had heard and had part of the shock wave of that dreadful explosion in Beirut yesterday.
Our daughter has had to work all through lock down, she's a civil engineer in UK and at the moment she's completing the job she's in charge of - dualling the A46 just outside Leicester. She has been careful when visiting the site.
Our son is back at work - he's an executive chef for a company who have a series of pub/restaurants in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. He's had to redo the menu so it's quick and easy and go round making sure everyone understands the new rules. He's also had to cook the Christmas meals to be photographed for the Christmas menus.
Our daughter's friend is a senior carer at a nursing home and she's had a dreadful time this last year. She had her 40th birthday in lock down, working and having to send her 2 sons to school because she had no one to look after them - her husband died of cancer just before Covid 19 escaped China.
Cyprus went into self isolation so escaped much of what others have suffered with only 19 deaths. The airports have been reopened but there are restriction of who can come here. It's normally full of tourists this time of the year. The hotels and holiday apartments are empty.
We must all look on the bright side, I've got lots of reading done and put a few more ancestors on my family tree. The dog has enjoyed the fact that at least one of us is with her most of the time. She'll be upset when we are back to normal. Both our children have been contacting us nearly everyday so good things have come out of adversity. We normally hear from our daughter at weekends and son whatever day he has off during the week. My DNA is linking up with plenty of people who are in Canada and USA. My ancestors travelled around the world, its just finding out which ones :).
Must be frightening working at the moment and being restricted when away from work doesn't help. Where do you like travelling to? My annual visit to UK was cancelled as it was booked for May. Hopefully I'll be able to go next year.
Off to get breakfast - my husband has a back problem so has to do his exercises before he gets up and it gives me time to check my emails 🙂 only one today to say you'd contacted me.
Take care and stay safe
Pat.
Passing the time at home gets tiring I know. Doing a lot of projects to keep busy! Trying not to binge watch tv programs. Although it takes up the time, not my thing.
Gardening has become one of my favorites. Walking a lot (live in the country).
Let me know how you all are doing!
Stay safe all

I too have joined to chat to different people. We are in very strange times. I am staying safe thank you and I work from home which helps with that.
Do you work from home with your role? I am interested to hear how others get on working from home. Although I did it before this, I did occasionally pop into the office or go to meetings or visits, but now it has come to a bit of halt as you would expect. Socially it is not ideal of course.
As an IT Consultant you may have to go out to sites or perhaps you can just be a point of advice and can remain at home or speak on the most popular Zoom or Teams.
Have a good day
