If you could direct me to a chat room separate from the forum on Silver Surfers, I may make use of it for my digression or deviation from the chosen subject. Since it overly concerns you that others are deviating from the main thread, feel free to stick to your chosen thread and discuss away.
The idea of threads is just that, a thread going off in a different direction. You may or may not wish to follow it.
Chat rooms:
The chat room area will typically be divided into different sections according to interests; almost every topic imaginable is covered in some chat room — from stamp collecting to kangaroo breeding in Australia’s outback. Once a user is logged in, conversations can be had by typing messages back and forth between others.
I do believe that this is what we have been doing.

As it is, the forum seem to double as a chat site, see below from Silver Surfers:

The best chat rooms for over 50s and 60s
Once you’re ready to dive into the world of online chatting all that’s left to do is find a chat room and sign up.
The online chat rooms here at Silversurfers emphasise the importance of connecting with people for our general happiness with interesting topic discussion, and are geared specifically at the over 50s, so you’ll be sure to find people in similar walks of life

Looks like youve swallowed a dictionary! I never said that 'it overly concerns me' or used the word 'deviating' I was merely making an observation so there was no need for your long copy and paste drawn out post!!
Response from Yodama made on 1st Dec 2016 09:35:44
Yes I did swallow a dictionary Tyjen, nice with chips and peas (oops! I digress) The reason for the cut and paste was to show you variations of the word 'chat'. The word 'deviating' is a synonym of 'digress' the word you used.
There really is no need to split hairs, chat, or the different variations shown previously, is what people do on this site. Whether serious or humerous, it is a connection to another human being.

Surely my welcoming and reassuring message to John1961 to just go ahead and 'chat', did not need to be dissected and dismissed so quickly.

The question is, are you now 'digressing' from the topic in hand?
'How do we make friends on here? Any help as I am not very Computer savvy'

Everyone digresses at some point.
Response from Tyjen made on 1st Dec 2016 09:45:19
I did not dissect or dismiss your post to John1961, Im not splitting hairs either, I made a valid comment and you attacked me with your words which was uncalled for. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!
Response from Yodama made on 1st Dec 2016 09:51:08
Oh dear, I really am not going to start a war of words, you win.
Response from Tyjen made on 1st Dec 2016 11:20:46
really! you already did!! this is not a competition to see who can have the last word!

That's why they are called chat rooms, I often digress, the subject in hand may have outlived its life, maybe all that can be said about the subject has been said. idle chat is also good, particularly if it is amusing.
Response from Tyjen made on 30th Nov 2016 20:06:55
I wouldnt class these as 'chat rooms' they are forums for discussion.

Hi john i have only just joined myself. There are quite a lot of different topics I would just browse the forum. You can add a new topic something that interests you. Good luck.
Response from Tyjen made on 30th Nov 2016 17:57:28
The problem with the topics is they dont stay topical theres a lot of digressing into idle chat.

The best way to chat to people is to maybe go onto the forum and pick a subject, maybe General, you may have something to say on any of the subjects shown. Soon you will be chatting away.
Easy peasy.
Welcome to all new chatters.
