If you don't, or won't fulfil the 'obligations' required by your religion, why would you still claim to be a Christian?
Can I be a vegetarian if I still eat Big Mac's?
Can I still be a cyclist if I don't have a bike?
Can I be a skydiver if I don't have a parachute?

What obligations are required of me to be a Christian? Should I go to church and neglect the help required of me by a fellow human being.

I'm sure that a Christian could spare the odd Sunday from helping the needy and pop into church?

But then I'd be singing and praying rather than doing it Celtwitch. some people talk about it, others do it. I'm a doer what are you

Nice one halfofawhole.

Well CeltWitch, I'm not on the fence and I am a Christian who has read both The God Delusion (Professor Richard Dawkins) and The Dawkins Delusion (Professor Alister McGrath - a former atheist).

The question I'd like you and Richard Dawkins to answer is why you keep returning to the subject of religion at all. I can understand those atheists who come to believe that belief in a god is a delusion that will fade away, and who then dismiss the subject from their minds. I believe that they are misguided and there have been plenty of people who reached that position only to abandon it.

However I do understand their position. Yours I don't.

Afterthought: We Christians, I'm afraid to say, are not immune to temptation or mild teases. My current one is to attempt to predict how long it will be until your next outburst on the subject.

'Outburst' is a little strong, and why shouldn't I keep returning to the subject of religion, it amuses me when people insist that god is real.

Outburst

From Google:
- a sudden release of strong emotion.
- a sudden occurrence of a particular activity.

From Dictionary.com:
1.
a sudden and violent release or outpouring:
2.
a sudden spell of activity, energy, etc.
3.
a public disturbance; riot; outbreak.
4.
a bursting forth; eruption.

(note 2 and 4)

Merriam-Webster:
: a sudden expression of strong feeling
: a sudden increase in activity

These don't all emphasise strong feelings.

I have been wondering whether it's something you're driven to do, rather than a calm choice to fill a leisure moment. Also Richard Dawkins is a very busy man occupied with teasing out the secrets of the universe. Wouldn't one suppose him to regard this one as done and dusted years ago, allowing him time to get on with science?

Well Googled, but none of your definitions describes how I feel about religion...I'm just curious.
Response from KEITH_WL made on 29th Aug 2016 23:39:46
I don't think that fits, Celtwitch. Being curious could be good science, but your statements seem to be all in one direction. They do indeed state an attitude to religion. It doesn't strike me as expressing curiosity.
Response from celtwitch made on 30th Aug 2016 10:54:09
You don't think what 'fits?' I'm not sure what you mean - do you know what you mean?
In case you hadn't realised, I'm pushing (as gently as I'm able!) for explanations and 'proof' that god is real. So far, all I have seen is obfuscation and blather.

I was told recently by our vicar that Jesus will judge you by your life long behaviour not by whether you have attended church. He accepted that there are a number of church goers who would not be judged as Christians on their judgement day because of their behaviour. Shot himself in the foot there I think as I'm a dedicated fence sitter.

I,m on the fence with you. I love to help and assist those who need it if thats not good enough so be it.

Judgement day is nothing but a Christian myth, there is no afterlife, no `other side` no heaven. When we die, that`s it, there is nothing more.
Response from jeanmark made on 28th Aug 2016 12:19:21
That's your belief celtwitch but as no one has ever come back to tell us about the after life, we may just have to wait until judgement day to see if it actually exists, if it doesn't it won't be a problem!
Response from celtwitch made on 28th Aug 2016 13:07:05
If there was a 'life after death' I'm sure that science would have been able to locate exactly where it is that all those undead dead people are actually living.
'Life after death' is a preposterous claim that could only be proven with extraordinary evidence.

I thought they already had celtwitch, isn't there a TV programme showing them having fun?
