Supermarket survey

Which report survey found that more people( thirty seven per cent) we’re citing confusing unit pricing as the greatest irritation in Supermarkets. This was much higher than their survey last year, but was closely followed by multi buy offers (rather than discounting ) and excessive packing.

Now we have the mis -selling  of products  with insufficient information on packaging as to content and place of manufacture. The time has come to go back to honest trading and standard pricing.Perhaps now is the time to bring our High streets back to their former glory, with Independent shops and convenient stores. Not everyone wants to do a large family weekly shop, especially pensioners disabled or single people. It is almost impossible to go into a supermarket and buy just a few items, as you are always stuck behind queues of people trying to get through checkout.Surely in these days there is a need to satisfy and serve all walks of life. There is a need to have out of town shopping for those that require it, and for those bulky items, but also a need for smaller shops where things can be easily found.

How about a Senior Service food shop where people who require help can get the service they are prepared to pay for.,and delivered if required.

often those most in need are not computer literate,so cannot order from their own homes.

it would be lovely to see the return of traditional shops, especially the butcher ( after the horse meat scandal) green grocer and fish monger, along with the atmosphere of the weekly street market. We live in such a progressive and yet regressive age.

There is no reason why village shops pubs and schools should close. If the Supermarkets want the monopoly they should take over the running of the Village shops and charge the same prices as in their Super Stores. They all have smaller vans for home deliveries so can easily top up the village shops and do their bit to help out small communities.Likewise there is nothing to prevent them from taking on some of the empty High Street shops to sell clothing or food, they may even find their profits go higher by giving this service.

No one needs to be in the same place at the same time, if all shopping returned to the High Street car parks would have to be found or greatly extended.Let us just make the most of what we have. In fact the big car parks at supermarkets are one of the main attractions. If a council wishes to be able to get good rateable value it must think how people will park near the increasingly empty shops. Our town used to have a free hour in its car parks. Charging 50p for the first hour recently must have upset most of the small shops which are now losing trade and will eventually have to close. The alternative would be to reduce the shop rates on the High Street shops. The rates on an empty shop is no rate at all. :-(
