Venturing in at last!

Signed up to the site a just over a year ago but was in the process of making my third move in four years, so never really got into it! Now settled (builders permitting!) in the West Midlands, close to my family after living alone on the other side of the country for nearly ten years. I retired three years ago but have now left all my good friends behind..... I try to visit as often as I can whilst also trying to make new contacts near my new home. Looking forward to a year without a house move!

Good luck with your move.I am thinking of moving in the next couple of years .I retired six months ago and am trying to make new friends as well as seeing my current friends, It takes a bit of effort to try new things but can lead to interesting friendships sometimes.Do you do any volunteering?

Hello! I've thought about volunteering and have looked at the local index, but that's as far as I got! Even before I moved I found it was quite a shift as many of my friends were still in work during the day, and term time, and also have husbands or partners whereas I am on my own. Knowing I was planning to move I was probably a bit reluctant to get involved in too many things as it would only mean leaving behind another set of contacts and starting all over again, although I did go out each week with a walking group.
Since moving I've joined the local U3A group (been along to the Photography group this morning) and also Friends of the local libraries (and found myself Secretary after 2nd meeting!).
Hope your move goes well!
