Brexit and Travel

I am very worried about a brexit and holidays/travel, I have a holiday home in Spain and I dont want to have to apply for a Visa every time I go there. What is going to happen. It makes me shudder - I have done a LOT of research on this and it seems that there is a lot of propaganda from both sides. The brexiteers paint the remains as fear mongers. But it seems like the Brexiteers are actually the ones doing the fearmongering not of the risk but of the evil undemocratic EU. All false information after a few hours of research - the EU is very democratic, we elect EU representatives every year. My 2 cents is that even if leave wins, they wont be able to leave when they realize the sheer amount of reorganization involved - how much will the restructuring of the government cost? Significantly more than the cost of being a member of the EU - which is not even close to as much as the leavers claim its like a gym membership - the benefits are not financial - we feel them everywhere in the roads we drive on , the universities, the local regions. Cornwall alone has received over a billion pound aid stimulus from the EU - we don't hear much about that. I for one dont believe the lies that these politicians are spouting - especially the myth of sovereignty!!! What exactly is that? It is being misused and everybody is repeating the things that the leave campaign are saying verbatim - without actually thinking about it. Sovereignty is not something that you as an individual can have - it belongs the the nation, actually - Its something you bestow upon one single person to represent the ultimate power of a region. I would rather a group of 23 bureaucrats of the EU with their boring, slow, dependable way of doing things has my sovereignty than a rogue Nigel Bloody Farage... Or Boris Johnson. Can you imagine. Maybe I am just a liberal at heart - but I see so many of my liberal friends buying into the garbage that the seriously right wing politicians are dishing out. I am appalled at the lack of vision from the older voters in this country - I know some know it all leaver will have answers for everything I have just said - but its just an echo chamber repeating the same thing those sleazy politicians have been drumming into you. I am voting in.

I expect that post Brexit the Spaniards will confiscate holiday homes owned by Brits and hand them to young Spanish people, free of charge. I also think that they will seize bars, cafe's, fish and chip shops and virtually all businesses owned and run by Brits.
And don't be surprised if they ban all flights from UK to Spain.Your options for travelling to Spain will be limited to train, bus or self drive, but be prepared to be stoned by angry locals as you drive through Spanish towns, and refused service in restaurants, bars, and filling stations, and to be given a hard time by the fuzz!
The Spanish have never forgiven us for the Armada, they have been looking for an excuse to hate us ever since.
Anyone want to buy an apartment in Fanals?

Just like the Italians have since Boadica defeated the Romans in about AD61. I hear the Italians are banning all flights because of this as well!

I'm off to Spain tomorrow for a holiday!
Why would the Spanish confiscate dipladated holiday homes and hand them to the young...they have enough empty finished apartments left over from the boom and bust era...
They havent forgiven us since 1704...

I was going to say "what a load of rubbish" quoted by the BBC today regarding Brexit and travel within Europe next year and on, but I find that other people have already made lots of valuable remarks, makes mine sound quite meagre. What do they think we did before EU? We managed didn't we?. Also do they not think that other countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy to name a few, would not object when their tourism takes a rapid downturn! Think again eh!

Prior to us joining the Common Market, not the European Union, I travelled a lot on business and leisure in western Europe and never required a visa. I also worked in Germany and France, the only difference then was that I needed a work permit and a resident's permit, but that was no great problem.

Well you didn't take much convincing !
I have never read such negative propaganda on this web site as yours !
If you love Brussels so much may I suggest you go and live their!
I like Europe - but not at the expense of selling my country down the swany!
I will still go to Europe and do business with them but I am like many Europeans they do not want their identity wiping out by unelected Europrats that they can't vote out.
Also my NHS is National not International and I want our borders closed so that any elected Govenment of the day puts my safety first before the dreams of corrupt Europrats !

I didn't believe any of the propaganda for either side, just like I don't believe any other kind of advertising. I wanted to find out an unbiased opinion and I ended up being shocked at what was all behind the EU. Unfortunately I am surprised at the number who voted to remain for the sake of free movement - where do they get the idea that we won't be able to travel, I did before EU and I presume I could again after it if I wanted to. People moved and lived abroad as well before EU.
But free travel, cheap booze and tobacco have all been fairly popular reasons for folks voting to remain, fairly selfish but not many mention their reasons to stay, and I mean their own reasons not reasons given by the media getting repeated parrot fashion. Do you know when or why the EU came to be, do you know what actually goes on inside the parliament. Nobody yet has given me a good reason why staying is good for the country.

I really can not see leaving the EU would hinder us in any way to carry on traveling in Europe. If we, at some point, have to start getting visas to travel in Europe, so be it. We do for other countries. If the vote is in favour of leaving, nothing is going to change for a few years anyway. It is not going to be instant. All the IN and OUT drum bangers are getting desperate for our votes now so are coming out with all sorts of

Apparently although we voted to join the EEC, we did not get the option to vote to join the EU and that may mean we are actually not members of the EU. Best to read the suggestion for yourself and form your own opinion

It is a referendum we are voting on and should it be a 'leave' vote the notification of the wish to leave needs to be applied to the EU commission, there would be a lot of negotiations which could take about 2years (someone even thought as much as10 years). The application then goes before the EU parliament and they set the date for leaving.
Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Ireland and Greece have all needed bail-outs from the EU, now it's being reported that France and Germany are having problems. We have been threatened with no-one would trade with us, even suggesting WW3, loss of jobs - all the threats coming from the 'Remain' side. UK farmers paid not to plant crops but other EU countries could. Our fishermen could only catch the quota of fish they were told to and the rest thrown back, dead or alive! and then we have to import the fish in our waters that we are not allowed to catch.
As far as trading goes, we already trade with other countries, we are in the G7 & G20, the biggest economical countries, we are the the Commonwealth League of nations, our queen is the head. We like many of the other EU members are in NATO - can't see them allowing WW3 to break out in Europe. If there are threats of war from perhaps Russia, then we would join forces with our allies as we have done before.
If Germany and France stopped trading with us, we import more from them, than they do from us and think of all the BMW, Fiat, Citroen etc cars from these countries - it would be unnecessary economic ruin for them. Then there is all the produce from France and Spain - ruination of their economy. Nobody wants that, least of all, them.
Ridding ourselves of an expensive beaurocracy, would give us the opportunity to build up our own businesses, put the money where we need it most and still be able to help other countries - but it would be our choice and not something which has been dictated to. The EU lost £100 billion in unaccounted spending and errors and their own auditors wouldn't even sign them off. It costs £130 billion of European Tax payers money p.a. for the monthly shuffle between Brussels and Strasbourg. Our debt is the biggest it's ever been at £1.4 trillion, so how can we be better of remaining, if they can't look after our money?

I'm guessing it will come down to how keen Spain is to have longer term visitors. I think its highly unlikely the average holidaymaker will need a visa. I've recently visited Japan, Canada and the USA and did not need a visa for any of these countries, but that would have changed if I had intended to stay for a long period as you may as a holiday home owner. Given the number of people in a similar situation to yourself one would hope that Spain would see sense and make entry as simple as possible as if they didn't they would be 'cutting their nose off to spite their face' by discouraging a source of income into their national economy. But, just because it's the most sensible solution it doesn't mean it will necessarily happen so, if we vote leave, I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

You say there is a lot of properganda from both sides then blame it on the outers!
Your comments are like Trolls?
Saying outers are scare mongering ,who are you to tell people wanting out that the EU is democratic and that people doing this have only based their views on a few hours research!
May I suggest YOU do some more homework and don't make sweeping statements about the outers as you certainly don't know who you are speaking to!

Well, it's obvious that the Remain campaigners have convinced you that we should chuck away the chance to determine our own destiny. Europe is breaking up, sinking beneath the tide of unchecked immigration and some towns and cities across the eurozone are blighted by almost daily outbreaks of violence.
Of course, the BBC and the leftist media refuse to show the true extent of the massive problems that welcoming people from other cultures has caused.
Sweden is now the rape capital of Europe and second only to Lesotho in the sheer scale of sexual assaults and rapes. Sweden was the most crime free country in the world; then they welcomed in hundreds of thousands of 'migrants' who are now busily destroying Sweden.
One hundred years ago we were the most powerful nation on earth; unchecked immigration and the EU has turned us into diversity and equality loving wimps, afraid to stand up for ourselves lest we be thought 'racist' or 'Islamophobic.'
I want my granddaughters to be free to walk the streets without having to fear being raped by a bunch of 3rd world chancers, who think that sex is theirs for the taking.
The EU is killing us, so do the right thing and vote LEAVE on 23rd June.
Response from Robin-Rising Original Poster made on 16th Jun 2016 10:25:53
The EU is not solely responsible for immigration in the UK, historically, more immigrants come from countries outside the UK, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, South Africa. Whose fault is that? Would we close the borders completely after a leave result? Right, that's it - shut the doors.

One Hundred years ago we were the most powerful nation on earth because we forcibly took away the sovereignty of more than a third of the world - that is something that we fail to consider and remember. The world is changing, the old England that you knew and loved will never be again.

How exactly do these third world chancers get into the UK? Europe is composed of democratic first world nations unless I am severely mistaken. before the British empire, the most powerful nation in the world was hungary, is there anything wrong with hungarians?

May I suggest that maybe you are the one who has lack of vision and feel the need to be bullied and controlled by unelected by us Eurocrats !
Ask yourself what this country will be in another few years ?
Ask yourself where all the housing will go ,ask yourself who will be the minority here and who will be controlling the UK?
And one more thing where is the EU taking us and WHY?
Do you know what they are up to and what they are not telling you, while using our cash to do it!
Do you know how many country's want a vote and will have one and will leave!
We are in a strate jacket and we have no room for movement ,we have been at the top table all thes years and where the heck has that got us,it's got us in the mess we see all around us now!
