Help needed!

Hello there! This is an odd request, but I'm hoping you may be able to help me out. My name is Caroline and I work as a journalist on a well-known women's lifestyle magazine. Behind the scenes, however, I've started putting together a smart, informative lifestyle website for women like my mum – 60 plus but with a much younger mindset. I believe there's a real gap in the market for reading material aimed at older women that really speaks to them – without being dowdy and old-fashioned. We'll have a fashion page about how to make the latest trend work for you, and a beauty page where products are tried and tested by you. I'm starting off small here, but it's the lifestyle stuff I really need your help with. Everyone has a story to tell and I'm asking you for yours – as long as you're happy to have it published, of course. There will be regular features such as: – My typical day starts… This is a Day In The Life Of type feature. So what is your typical day? How do you while away the hours? – Five questions you've always wanted to ask a… This can be anything, really. Are you a retired teacher? A charity shop volunteer? An allotment owner? A keen singer? An am-dram enthusiast? – It happened to me! Ever had something slightly out of the ordinary happen to you? Maybe you had a shotgun wedding? Won an award for something? Went to university much later on in life, or about to start studying again? Recently reconnected with a family member? - We also have a virtual book group – is there anything you've read recently that you'd love to review? - We have an advice column, too – so any questions (no subject is off limits), send them my way. I would LOVE to be able to get this off the ground and genuinely believe it has scope. There was a recent article about a silent loneliness epidemic hitting the over-50s in this country – with three in four feeling isolated. It's a saddening and sobering thought, and I hope this website can help people feel that they are not alone, and that age is but a number. If you can help with any of the above-mentioned features, please do get in touch. Likewise, if you have any ideas or anything you'd like to contribute, I want to hear from you. Finally, a big, big thank you for a) reading this and b) any help you can give.

Any queries, please email: [email protected] Hugely appreciated, Caroline

Hi,
Great ideas gracemag!
I was widowed at age 54. There may be some interest for others like myself, who didn't expect to be widowed in their 50's or even 60's. Dealing with empty nest and new grandbabies and still working with plenty of life left in me. But being without a partner after 30 years took some getting used to. However, this new chapter in my life has taken off and I'm thriving.

Hi Caroline - I totally agree that more lifestyle websites are needed for older women. I recently started my own over 50 lifestyle blog. I think when people hear the word 'grandma' they think of a little old lady sitting in a rocking chair knitting (not that I'm knocking that). I wanted people to know how I started a new business in my 50s and am happier now than I ever have been. I'll email you as I'd love to contribute.

Hello Caroline. I love your post and the scope of your website. I would like to know how I could contribute to your current endeavour. I believe that at 60 we potentially have twenty or more years of active life in front of us.

We have the experience, the maturity and the time to create a new exciting future of connection and contribution. Often without the typical limitations of earlier chapters of life. (e.g. studies, full-time job, young children, ageing parents, mortgages etc.)

We have unprecedented means to leverage global audiences and connect with like-minded enthusiasts on any part of the planet. We can now dust off old passions that we reluctantly pushed on the back burner and devote ourselves to new fulfilling projects.

It all starts with cultivating a curious mind and not buying into any "youth propaganda' that suggest that at 60 we are declining...

60 is a great time to take charge of our lives with grace and determination.
