How can an SC (single cabin) on P&O still involve a single supplement?

Hi everyone, I like many others, have just found this fantastic site for exchanging friendships, chit chat etc. I enjoy cruising and when can't find a cruising buddy, try to find the right price SC. Even when you find a ship with dedicated single cabins, the cruise line still think you are going to eat and drink your way through the supplement they add - why????? There are some great offers coming through on as Late Deals/Last Minute but the 'deal' disappears when you say; solo!! Anyone want to share a cabin in the future on 'mates rates' - that is equal shares. H

I think its because rooms rarely hold only one bed and the companies argue it costs them money if both are not used! You could argue, if there is a double bed where is the extra cost to them?

Hotels and cruise lines base their revenue forecast on a per room or per cabin basis so the cost of accommodation is actually the cost of the room or cabin. Traditionally in the UK, prices are quoted as per person based on two sharing, that means that two people are sharing the cost of the room or cabin. If there is only one person then clearly they are going to have to pay the whole cost of the room or cabin themselves. If hotels and cruise lines were to allow single occupancy at the same price as someone sharing then they would lose half their revenue and go bust. However, there are holiday companies that specialise in singles holidays, such as Solos and Just You, and six of Norwegian's Cruise Line' ships have exclusive singles areas with single studio accommodation as well as lounges and bars exclusively for single travellers.

Try Norwegian Cruise lines. Around six of their ships have an exclusive singles area with around 100 studio cabins plus lounge, bar and so on. So when you go for a drink you can be sure that everyone else is also in the same boat - so to speak!

I got a great deal with P&O but I had to provide my own hammock, and the engine room was quite noisy.

But it's exactly the same with hotels. I see some great holiday deals, but as soon as you put in 'one person, single room', the cost shoots up to unaffordable!

Single supplements are a nightmare. There are low/no sole occupancy opportunities but they are few and far between. If you need any help or further guidance do let me know as I'm a travel agent.

I would love to hear of single cabins with no supplement.
