Hi there,

I live in Suffolk, but lived in Essex as a teenager - also retired and like to chat. At the moment I am listening to the radio, about the state of the country and the sacking of the Chancellor. What do you think about that?

Best wishes, Valla
Response from Sixy Original Poster made on 16th Oct 2022 17:06:32
Hi Valla

Suffolk is beautiful, I am originally from Greenwich.

Mm the state of the country, well we all knew it would take time to recover after covid but not sure Liz Truss is going the right way about it. I feel she shot the Chancellor down in flames and seemed to imply that it was his decision in a letter I saw. Maybe be being a woman I should not say this but only one woman in my opinion could ever do the right thing and that was our dear Queen she will be missed so much, loyal to her Country and people all her life.

What is your opinion on the sacking?

Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply, but things keep getting in the way - I need to move house, husband is very poorly, problems with family - I don't know, seems more than I can take.

Re the country - I just hope Rishi lives up to our expectations, less said about Liz Truss the better. I do agree the Queen was amazing, we will never see anyone who comes near her as a monarch or as someone to aspire to. I don't think she put a foot wrong in all the years she was our ER.

I have been quite unwell after a recent hip operation so apologies to you for not replying sooner.

I do hope things are going a lot better for you now I was so sorry to hear of your problems.

In full agreement with you regarding our beloved Queen Elizabeth.

Sorry Jean, pressed the wrong button on my iPad, was just going to say that
I hope that your pain eases over the next couple of months, we may get some
warm weather by then, it’s a bit on the chilly side down here at the moment,
with strong cold winds, I hate the cold weather,
Well once again thank you for your message, take care, and stay safe and
warm, all best wishes, Terry x

Hi Sixy, my name is Terry, I am 74, so a bit older than you, but if you would like to
chat to a male for a maybe different perspective I would love to hear from you.
Have had to rejoin this site a few minutes ago, was on here before, but had my
iPad stolen whilst I was on holiday in Cape Town, so had to buy a new one when
I got back home, am single with no children, and I live in Southampton. Always
have chatted with people on this site, so it would be nice to start afresh, Anyway
enjoy the rest of your evening, hope that you get others to chat too. All best
wishes, Terry.

Hi Terry

Thank you for your message.

I am going into hospital for a hip replacement on Tuesday 25th October so once I am more with it will welcome someone to chat to.

Hope you have a nice weekend.

Good afternoon sexy, thank you for your welcome message, I hope that
your surgery goes well on Tuesday and that you are soon mobile again.
I also have a hospital appointment on Tuesday ( coincident) I have to have
a few test for a heart condition, so not so invasive as yours. I would love
to hear from you when you have recovered a bit, so don’t rush. I will be
here when you are ready to get in touch, have a lovely week end and
the very best of luck with your op, all best wishes, Terry.

Hi Sixy, sorry about the mistake in my last message with the miss spelling
of your user name, I typed it in right but my iPad didn’t recognise the word
so decided to change it, I should have checked before sending, but was
not until I read the message back that I saw the mistake unless my iPad
knows something I don’t haha so anyway, enjoy your week end, and
best wishes for your hospital visit on Tuesday, Terry.

Hi Terry48

So sorry for the delay replying to you but I have had a rough ride after my operation and still in a lot of pain, I will be expecting answers to my questions when I see the consultant later this month.

I do hope you are keeping well.
Response from Terry48 made on 2nd Dec 2022 12:36:39 > @Sixy
Hi Sixy, thank you for your reply to my message, so sorry to hear that you
are still in pain from your hip operation and hope that you get some relief
soon, I had an appointment on the same day that you went in, but mine
was only a small event, so no pain involved.
I am keeping well at the moment, but not keen on this cold weather we
are having at the moment.
Since we last spoke, I have had my holiday in Cape Town, South Africa,
The weather was nice and warm, and I met up with some old friends
that I had not seen since the start of the pandemic. I expect that it will
be the last time that I will see them, as the long flights make me too
tired.
The sun is out here in Southampton today, a big change from yesterday.
For the last couple of days, I have been in Reading to visit two of my
sisters, will see one more at Christmas when I go to Basingstoke to dog
sit for her.
Well once again, thank you for getting in touch again, am always here if
you want to chat, and I hope the rest of your day is pain free, take care
and stay warm, best wishes, Terry x

Hi Terry

Hope you are well?

Good to hear you had a wonderful holiday meeting up with old friends.

I am no better unfortunately, so much pain in my foot on operated side, the doctor has at last listened to me about the type of pain, one way to describe it is like a Chinese burn and extremely sensitive to touch and that goes on all day. Waiting for a new prescription to come today which should help further with the nerve pain, we shall see. I am due to see the consultant on Monday and I want answers.

You do seem to lead a busy happy life which is lovely. I do miss going to America on holiday probably will never go again but have some wonderful memories, my favourite place to visit was Moab, Utah my special place. Where is your favourite place to visit?

I used to work for the NHS and do miss the social aspect of my job, I met some wonderful people over the years some of which became more friend than patient.

This has been a difficult year for so many of us, I felt great sorrow at the loss of our wonderful Queen she gave us her all as she promised, just hope Charles will try hard he still has to win me over. William and Kate love them to bits they are such a beautiful caring couple, as for the ginge whinger and his poisonous wife least said the better.

Well you have probably had enough by now of me waffling on, I will say goodbye for now and take care.

Jean ☺️

Good morning Jean, so sorry to hear that you are still having pain from
your operation, let’s hope that the new medication will give you some
respite at last.
How are you coping with this cold spell? It is a lovely sunny day here
but that is deceiving as it’s very cold out, went to local shop to get a
newspaper and was glad to get back indoors.
Have you any plans for Christmas? I am going to my sisters in
Basingstoke to dog sit for a few days while they to visit brother in laws
mother, luckily they have Sky TV so not all bad news haha.
I have been looking for places to go if I am fit enough to go away next
year, like you, I don’t think that I will be going long haul again as the
flights are too long for me now as I can’t seem to sleep on the plane as
am too tall for the seats, so it will have to be a European destination if
I do get away.
I wish that you were able to do some travelling yourself, and I know how
you feel about missing your trips to Utah, maybe one day you might feel
up to going one last time, I had to tell friends in Cape Town, that I would
not be coming back there again, felt really sad to say it, but that is the
reality of things.
Don’t worry about waffling, as you can see, I tend to go on a bit myself.
So on that note, I will finish off for now, don’t be a stranger, but if I don’t
hear from you again before Christmas, I hope that you have a lovely time
whatever you do. Take care and stay warm, all love, Terry x

Hi Terry,

I hope you are well and your dog sitting Christmas went well?

I know I have taken ages to reply but I saw my consultant on 19th December and he was not pleased with my gp for not keeping him informed, I have a drop foot and neuropathy he was very concerned and ordered an urgent MRI and nerve studies. The consultant rang me at home on 29th December and said the MRI had shown up a collection of blood around the hip area and he thought this might be pressing on a nerve and wanted to operate on the 4th January his first list after xmas. It was meant to be a wash out of the area so quick but I ended up spending 4 hours on the operating table, lots of scar tissue, a nerve had to be cleaned up and also released a tendon in my left buttock, he had to make the original incision longer too. I really feel like I have been through the wringer he said it will take many weeks to recover. I am walking worse than when I had hip surgery and get tired very quickly, I start physio on Friday.
I am truly fed up with it all just one bit of bad news after another. The electric shocks in the foot have got less painful and I don’t get too many just hope they will stop altogether at some stage. The drop foot may never recover properly. I see the consultant again on 30th January.

Well I have a holiday to Yorkshire coming up in June so I am putting all my energy into getting better for that.

Take care, best wishes,

Jean x

Hi again Terry

That should read 2 hours on the operating table.

Hi Jean, thank you for getting back to me again, Wow you have had a bit
of bad luck with the complications after your hip surgery, lest hope that
you make a good enough recovery before you set off on your holiday to
Yorkshire in June.
I had a quiet Christmas, just me and the 2 dogs, they did not say much, so
could watch the TV in peace.haha.
I have had no word yet from the hospital as regards the fitting of the
pacemaker in my chest. Still these things take time now with all that’s going on in the country, with strikes and flu and Covid keeping people
in hospital.
We have lots of rain here in Southampton, these last few weeks, there was
rain last night, but it is bright and sunny here now, except for a cold north
wind. The forecast is for snow later in the week, but we don’t get that much here due to the salty sea air.
I have put in a transfer request to move to another Anchor/ Hanover
retirement building in Newbury, Berkshire, it is a lot closer to Reading, and
easier to get to my sisters who has Parkinson’s disease, and is not too good at the moment, so I would like to be a bit nearer to her. The new place has no vacancies at the moment, so it will be a while before I leave
here. I was hoping to go on a trip to Corfu in May with a solos company
that do trips for single people over a certain age, but will have to put that
on hold for a while. ( you will have to make room for me up in Yorkshire )
Haha. Well once again thank you for your message, take care and I hope
that you become a bit more pain free soon, all love, Terry x

Hi Terry
I hope you are well and had news from the hospital about your pacemaker?

My recovery from second is slow but gradually getting there, still get electric shocks in my foot but nothing like they were. The swelling in my legs and feet is a lot better I actually wake up with slim ankles and calves, does swell up a bit during the day but to be expected. My lower back is a worry because my consultant is considering referring me for possible surgery.

So sorry a big in replying it is just to do with my mood really as I do get depressed.

Have you heard anymore about your possible move?

Best wishes and take care

Jean x

Good afternoon Jean, thank you for your welcome message, so sorry
to hear that you are still having pain and discomfort after so long, but
as you say, not as bad as it was.
I am keeping well at the moment, and still no news about the pacemaker,
but have to go for a 24 hour heart monitor on 27th March.
And no news regarding my possible move to Newbury, will just have to
wait it out, if the worst comes, I can always stay here.
I am booking a trip to Africa in September for 3 weeks, so something
to look forward to, provided all goes well with my health.
