Pen pals

I have been pen palling for a while now does anyone else do this and is there somewhere on the site for this? It would be nice to write to people on here if they were interested.

The art of penmanship has always eluded me then in the 80s along came computers whoopee doo spell check was still the good old Oxford dictionary. Then slowly the web evolved and emails could be sent and received, I put my email address in birthday and Christmas cards and sat back to see if my friends would email me, they did, slowly my email address box grew to over 200 as friends of friends began to email me. To some it was a novelty so over 30 years my email address book has shrunk to 20. Face book took most then twitter, Skype well that is a very overstated and can ruin good friendships.
I love to hear from people young and old, after I retired early with ill health from local government my wife and I took up a lovely job as caravan park wardens, and I still work part time as a warden I even wrote a book, “A journey to a new life style”.

I would be only too happy to have a couple of email pals. Apart from bills and adverts I don't think there is much use for snail mail anymore. If you would like to contact me my address is [email protected]

It's an interesting proposition Meeka. I just got on here a few days ago. I was looking for a chat room but I haven't found one yet where cliques don't develope STRONG political views and being well read is looked down upon. Pen Paling runs the risk of exposing ones email and if one deals in proprietary matters that is an unreasonable risk. Plus via chat; assuming open minds, one can get a variety of responses and insights on issues that can be very valuable.

I still write (well type) letters, I do have e-mail addresses for some of my pals but we still use good old snail mail. I started many years ago with International Pen Pals (I think that they are still in existence) and was given a list of eighteen people to write to, in return my name and address was be given to eighteen more people so that they could write to me. It was good fun receiving these letters from all over the world, now some have fallen by the wayside but the rest of us still enjoy sending and receiving 'proper' letters.

Think it would be great to have pen pals on line in several countries . No one seems to bother to send letters and personally I find my typical mail of bill, advert, advert, advert very boring. Certainly help to keep the mind active along with the online Scrabble on facebook 🙂

I do think people use technology more to communicate and letter writing has become something of a dying art. I have 30 penpals and love writing and receiving letters much nicer than bills and junk mail.

Hello Meeka, A very interesting question http://www.silversurfers.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" class="spSmiley" /> keep an eye out for some response ... there is no other area on our website for writing letters to people, but you are welcome to communicate via our forum. I wonder if technology has made people more likely to communicate to their pen pals via email now?
