Hi' all, I've just moved in.
I'll post a pic' and fill out my profile when I get my head round how to do it.
I'm just outside Pontefract in West Yorkshire.
I enjoy classic cars and will be up in Masham town this weekend with my one.
I play Chromatic harmonica, that's the one with a button like Larry Adler played.

Hi' Lionel thanks' for the welcome. I play 16 hole's, Rhapsody in blue is a terrific piece Haven't got round to it myself. I suppose the nearest to classical I play is Claire De lune.
I do like the Black Sheep brew but I'll be driving so!
Response from RayJ made on 9th Sep 2017 09:48:44
I used to play with a few pals on Saturday afternoons having a few beers in the club. One of the guys played a diatonic and we'd take it in turns. The other lads would sing along. It was great fun but sadly it doesn't happen anymore.
I used to always carry one with me when out for a pint.
A few year ago when going on holiday, security at the airport pulled me for my harmonica. The girl on the X-ray machine wanted to know if it was a real one. So I drifted into Moon River and forgot myself for a while. When I remembered I stopped and opened my eyes only to find the whole of the security personnel and all the passengers in the area stood listening to me and gave me a great applause. that was fun.

Hi, I'm Sue, I'm 65 in a few days time. A friend told me about Silver Surfers. I'm a widow, my husband died last year from an Alzheimer's related illness. I have two sons aged 41 and 45. I'm originally from a town near to Leeds, I lived in Hertfordshire for over 20 years and now in Cambridgeshire. My hobbies are family research, reading and I (try to) go to the gym 3 times a week and meeting people. Apparently I talk a lot too........

Hello, I'm Ilusid and I have just joined Silver Surfers on the recommendation of a friend. I have lived in Cardiff for the seven years and enjoy my live here . It's a great city to live in with good facilities. I love to go the theatre either with friends or with family. My next visit will be to the Millenium Centre in Cardiff Bay to see Grease . I try to keep myself busy, I enjoy watercolour painting ( not always successful ), attending church, walking and spending time with family and friends. I am also a member of the U3A and do a bit of charity work for a local hospice.I have just returned from a holiday in Spain. I had a good time and enjoyed meeting new people. Tomorrow I will spending the day with my grandson and am hoping for some good weather so that we can spend some time outdoors. Whatever you are doing tomorrow I hope that you have a good day
Response from CaroleAH made on 13th Jun 2017 00:06:16
Hi Ilisud,
Welcome to Silversurfers - lots of friendly people on here and interesting topics on the forum to keep you amused. I'm a member of the U3A and I have found quite a few groups in it which occupy me. Your visit to the Millenium Centre sounds wonderful - I love "Grease". I went to see "Mamma Mia" last week at Leeds Grand Theatre; it was brilliant and, of course, I gave my age away by being word-perfect for the encores when the audience joined in with the singing! Have a lovely day with your grand-son. It's either going to rain or be cloudy up here in North Yorkshire. Hope to see you joining in on the Forum soon! 🙂

Hi I'm a newbie to S/S and slowly finding my way around. Any hints or tips? We moved to Wiltshire just 2yrs ago and what a lovely place and community we have found. Great neighbours and I'm just off for a walk with C with whom we share an allotment, something totally new for me. This will be our second year of allotmenteering. I love to read, knit and have recently joined a Walking Netball group which is really good fun.
Oh yes, we are also looking to get a cocker spaniel puppy in the next couple of months, that should keep us on our toes!! I keep you posted.

Good Morning all I've just joined S/S & looking for new online friends in the North West of UK or far afield. I live on the coast, beside the seaside. It's a beautiful start to the day here, a day when you feel full of go! Well near enough anyway lol, I'm at the 'get ready' stage just now, the 'go' will take another hour or so lol. Then, after bit of housework (it's kept up with so not fussing on a day like this) I'll be out on that prom taking in that wonderful sea air and views and meet a friend for cuppa. I have COPD but I do as much exercise as possible, enough for me anyway lol and it's kept me in good stead. I think a good soh goes a long way too. Ok thank you for reading my first post and I hope you all enjoy whatever you plan for today.
Response from CaroleAH made on 26th May 2017 13:40:11
Hi 60sBabe (brilliant name!), welcome to Silversurfers. I'm wilting in the heat so have retreated indoors - have to admit that I much prefer Spring and Autumn to hot Summers. Good for you getting out and about with COPD - I don't know much about it but "the powers that be" seem to recommend exercise for practically every ailment under the sun 🙂 . And, as you so rightly observe, having a good sense of humour helps. Which prom will you be walking on today? Hope you and your friend enjoy your cuppa and chat - no doubt setting the world to rights. Hope you find lots of interesting topics to comment on - and if you don't, you can always start one of your own!

Hi,have just joined and have also moved to Grimsby,N E Lincolnshire, after living in Kent for over40 years and losing my husband after 37 years. I have family here, but how can I start to socialise again, anyone else found themselves in this situation ??
Response from CaroleAH made on 10th May 2017 23:48:13
Hi Mary,
Welcome to Silversurfers - lots of people on the site and many interesting topics for you to have a look at and comment on. Moving to a new area when you are on your own can be an ordeal especially if you are shy but the thing to remember is that, however unpalatable it is, unless you make an effort to make friends with people then the folk who beat a path to your door are going to be few and far between. So, where to start. Are you fit enough to volunteer to work in a charity shop? The charities usually welcome you with open arms and you would not only have colleagues to work with but would also meet customers. Have you looked at the U3A website for your area? U3A (University of the Third Age) isn't anything to do with universities but is for retired or semi-retired people who want to follow an interest with like-minded people. My local U3A has over 60 interest groups ranging from Antiques Appreciation to Working in Wood. All the groups are led by a member enthusiast and we all learn together. I'm in a Book Group, Singing for Fun, Garden group, Holiday group, Theatre Group and After Hours Group so there's always a meeting to attend or somewhere to go. Do you attend church? You can find your nearest church and these days most of them serve coffee & biscuits after the morning service so you could introduce yourself and join in with the chatter. Some primary schools welcome volunteers who listen to the children read - some busy parents don't have time to do this so an extra pair of ears in the classroom can be very helpful - you would need a DBS check to do this. Hope these few suggestions have been helpful

Hi I'm Angela from Sheffield. I'm currently a PA in Higher Education and a business owner. My goal is to quit the day job and concentrate on the business. This will then allow me time and money to go travelling when and where I want.

I've just joined so hope I'm posting in the right place.

Hi. Just joined today. Having trouble finding my way round at the moment. Not sure if I should be using chat or forum!!
I am 63 and live in North London close to Camden Town. I work part time at the moment.
Anyone out there near to this area
Response from Wilf made on 6th Apr 2017 20:31:15
Hi Dianelily-I have been on the site a couple of years. Its best to use the forums if you are talking to a group or in a discussion on Speakers Corner which i enjoy a lot! If you want to talk to people confidentially then use the chat area-hope that helps

Hi, another newbie saying hello, currently living in Norfolk and working full time in financial services but trying to redress the work life balance and make time for my hobbies of travel and photography. Would love a simpler lifestyle and get rid of the stress! Joined to chat with like minded people. In two years time I would love to be in a little cottage in the Scottish Highlands, out and about with my camera - They say an idea becomes a plan when you put it in writing, so hear goes!
Response from chrissyp made on 4th Apr 2017 23:58:44
Hi Carol, I am new to the site also and living in Wiltshire. Hope your plan comes together. I only lived in Edinburgh, Scotland for 9 months but I loved it there.
