Hi anyone out there. Has anyone used the Silversurfers dating site recently? If so I would be interested to hear from you about your experiences, as I have just paid up for 3 months. Here's hoping I get some replies lol

I was considering it – and got as far as setting it up but bottled out before I committed to payment.....and deleted my details. I just don't think it is for me. But interested in hearing how other people have got on.

Aw that's a shame......but nothing ventured nothing gained I suppose. I am just a scaredy cat and daren't risk it. I may in the future, but need to build my courage up first. Well done on giving it a try.

Recently divorced and relocated, I took the plunge and joined a dating site. I met up with a couple of chaps but really its an unnatural way to try to meet someone and I'm not sure it did anything for my self-esteem. I despair. I have friends and family and an active life during the day but I am still lonely. I am personable, fun to be with, active, young at heart. I thought it would be easy to find someone but I guess I was too optimistic.

I think you are right, Marmitegranny. Dating websites are an unrealistic way of meeting prospective partners because you can list all your preferences and dislikes etc but without that initial spark from eye contact and conversation it is difficult to pursue a relationship. Profiles might seem perfect matches on paper but it is only human nature to exaggerate our good points and play down, or in most cases, not even mention the bad ones. Like you, I'm busy during the day but would occasionally appreciate some company in the evening to chat over a meal, or discuss a TV programme or film but as a friend once said "it is better to be alone, than wish that you were" and I have to agree! 🙂 Que sera, sera!

Well I have pipped you to the post as I took out a 3mos sub for silversurfersdating .com in good faith and found I was wasting my time messaging males with perfectly reasonable messages as only 2 replied and the rest did nothing.
One wanted to exploit my sexual instincts went on holiday then backed off saying he was mending things with a previous female ... the other politely told me we had nothing in common yet the site said he was 70% compatible with me.

After some thought I read the small print and was disgusted as obviously those on one of the other sites could not reply ... they are linked with 12 other sites ....... thelovelab.co.uk. dating.telegraph.co.uk, encountersdating.co.uk, dating .classicfm.co.uk , www.sagadating, datingbelfast telegraph.co.uk, datingweekly.co.uk,datingwomanandhome.com, dating.womansweekly.com, www.primaloves.co.uk, www.countryloving.co.uk,www.mysinglefriend.com,

So now I will avoid all those sites so perhaps they did me favour ... either way I complained told them to cancel my sub after I canceled the renewal and delete my profile after I deleted my photos. as I felt badly let down as when I joined it was not made clear to me about all the other sites. I felt deceived and they did as I asked .... sad fact is many others will find the same problem

I have started to use the Silversurfers dating site , it was surprising to see the previous dating site Saga Connection's I had been on allowing me to duplicate my application from one to other.
I also noticed on the local area choice this was also duplicated.
If you are also on other magazine related dating sites they all seem to match one another as to choice.
For example , you may contact someone who you think is a user of the Silversurfers site ,and not get a response as they subscribe to one of the other sites.
I foolishly have paid for a year , but will withdraw everything coming up to the time of renewal it shows how farcical things are.

Hi Michael,
I think that if you read the T&Cs for using the Silversurfers Dating site you will find that it comes under the "umbrella" of The Dating Lab Ltd along with all the following sites:
"Network Site(s)" means one of the following dating Sites provided by TDL: www.thelovelab.co.uk, www.encountersdating.co.uk, dating.classicfm.co.uk, www.sagadating.co.uk, dating.newscientist.com, www.soultosoul.co.uk, www.lovearts.com, www.silversurfersdating.com, dating.belfasttelegraph.co.uk, www.newlysingledating.co.uk, dating.cyclingweekly.co.uk, dating.womanandhome.com, dating.womansweekly.com, www.primaloves.co.uk, www.country-loving.co.uk and www.mysinglefriend.com;
This probably explains why people who have joined more than one of the sites will have profiles that appear twice (or more times) when you do a local search for compatible partners. The way I have interpreted the small print is that this engenders a greater choice of people in your area. I assume that if you belong to, for example, Silversurfers and Encounters Dating and you get a message from someone, you can only respond to that message via the website that they have used/belong to. So perhaps things aren't as farcical as you first thought. You could also contact Silversurfers and ask what their policy is - they should be helpful. I'm not a member but I contacted The Telegraph Dating site about a very dubious/suspicious sounding profile ( 60+ year old male wanting to meet a young mother with young children) and they replied instantly and the profile quickly disappeared so they are not all out just to grab your money - they do have a reputation to live up to. Hope this helps! 🙂

There appears to be dearth of correspondence in these forums, possibly due to the limited amount of information conveyed. In relation to a dating site, my first observation was reference to "paying up". Is it necessary to buy membership ? Surely the essence of this forum is communication and as seen, one member has already tendered an email, what next, phone numbers. If members feel the need to date, then a simple enquiry to that end would elicit responses as appropriate.

So any romantically inclined lady living in East Anglia, who has own transport, ideally with red hair, green eyes and endless legs, who wishes the attention of a hopefully amusing and interesting gentleman, kindly indicate herein their intentions and I shall respond with the necessary arrangements to meet.

Well, good luck, Andronicus! 🙂 Do let us know if you are inundated with replies!!!!

Despite the flippancy and cynicism, I claim success in forming a promising association with an aforementioned Goddess only recently... faint heart never won and nil desperandum...etc....

Dating sites are all about timing ... if he or she is on the same road at same time as in life ... and seeing as there are so many sites on the net whether they be dating of otherwise there will always be monies to make out of members.. I am optimist too but you need more than that ... as I said timing has everything to do with if you will find a meet with right person.

I have been match dot com twice for short spells and first time nothing but fakes contacting me then 2nd second time he like me had just joined but just been widowed weeks before so much as he was lovely male easy going and would do anything for me ... he had plenty of baggage and boxes to unpack as she was spender and bought everything twice for that new home they might have so he was living in rented house full of boxes ... no future there sadly.

And I do not live in East Anglia ... boo hoo

I've used some other sites (POF, zoosk) without much success. I met two or three very nice men who were either too far away or just didn't work. It's worth taking a chance. Just be sensible and cautious. Good luck!

Hi, I also considered this. Started my profile, but have not done anything else since. Did try it on another dating site a few years back. There are a few 'players' out there! You need to learn the jargon.....having fun does not mean what it used to!
Maybe will dip my toe in the water again, but always feel that any photo of me looks yuk!

Hi,
I have considered joining as well but feel that there are so many people out there who either lie or exaggerate in their profiles that I just cannot be bothered to sort out the wheat from the chaff 🙂 I've read so many men's profiles whose photos show a wrinkly, saggy face with a bald head and they want to meet a woman at least 20 years younger, who is slim, fit, a cordon-bleu chef, great gardener, linguist etc etc ............ and gentlemen, before you you start jumping up and down, shaking your fists, I'm sure that there are also women who exaggerate their attributes as well.
