Skyatnight
I would be happy to have an intrepid traveler join me on this fabulous adventure!
I'm a female based in East Anglia, in my 60's and looking for female companions only - thanks.
I'm hoping to take a few European breaks - cities and the coast too!
I enjoy walking, gardening, crafts, days out, music and love animals.
I can't believe it's more than 2 years since I posted my message on here!
I'm more than happy to chat and see how things go.
Where are you hoping to travel to this year?
Kind Regards.
Like you say, these solo holidays are quite expensive, although I expect you do get taken care of and everything is included in the price, and you're never alone.
I haven't travelled a great deal, but went to Croatia last year. A city break somewhere for a few days would be quite nice, and I've never been to Austria so somewhere like Vienna sounds good.
I've never been to Cyprus either, although I have been to Majorca (many moons ago!).
Perhaps let me know a bit more about you - your interests etc? Kind Regards
Although I was brought up living just a stones' throw from the seaside, I'm the same as you and would not like sitting on a beach (or around a pool) all day! I'm more for going exploring and seeing around the local area or further afield even.
I take it you're not really into coach holidays!!
I have very similar interests to you, and love animals (owned by 2 dogs), nature, wildlife, walking, also crafts, the odd theatre trip, day trips and gardening.
Along with Austria, I've never been to Switzerland either - so much choice out there.
I'll have to look up City breaks to see what's available.
It's just started raining, so it'll be back to muddy dogs again! Have a good day.
I’m not solo in life, but I am when it comes to cruising and the odd bucket list location. My partner says that cruises are not for him, and a few places on my list just aren’t of interest to him. Because of this, I’m searching for a female traveling companion for future cruises (at least one if not two per year). And the odd destination that is on my list but not his.
However, I live in Houston (Texas) .. And, I think this could be a good thing? If we decided after conversations and video chats that we could be a good fit, this could offer us both the opportunity to visit one another's city/country and travel more easily from multiple ports/airports.
I’ve been on three cruises over the years, with Disney and Norwegian. I’m scheduled for my next cruise on February 26th of 2023 .. (https://www.vacationstogo.com/fastdeal.cfm?deal=44819). I ended up booking 3 balcony staterooms for 6 of us girls, and we are excited! And, now I’m looking at a couple more possibilities .. Panama Canal #44829 and Ireland #13818. I want to see the world!
Also, I prefer to travel during the shoulder seasons for value $ and fewer travelers.
A bit about me (my intro) .. I’m sixty-one, retired and in good to excellent health. Adventurous, and it bears repeating .. I want to see the world! A few of my interests are travel (all sorts), photography, dancing, road trips, animals of all kinds, wine, and yummy foods. I’m an ambivert, and a little bit of a nerd. I don’t snore, I’m neat and tidy, don’t mind sharing a cabin (with the right person) and easygoing. I don’t smoke, I like cocktails, wine, and to have a good time.

I am very new to this. In fact you are my first contact. I read your intro message and I, too, want to travel. I have been contemplating several options, however, traveling solo is very expensive. I am a retired teacher from Wisconsin. I am looking for an adventurous travel partner. I would to travel to Patagonia. Patagonia is located in southern Argentina and Chile. Costa Rica, the Dalmatian Coast, and the Galapagos are also on my list. Take a peek and see what you think. If interested, we could start chatting and may make something happen. I am hoping to book and set a travel date as soon as March 2024.
Hope to hear from you,
Travel theWorld
I can easily say that Patagonia and the Dalmatian coast are destinations that I haven't yet been to, and are of interest to me.
However, I'm afraid that I can't make any additional travel plans until 2025 since my travel calendar is currently full through 2024. I've got a BVI cruise the end of Oct 2023, a Panama Canal cruise the beginning of Jan 2024, a South Africa tour the beginning of March 2024, and a tour through a good portion of Northern Europe from Sept thru Nov of 2024.
I would be interested in keeping in touch for the future though. If you would like to get to know one another better in the meantime, my email is bellobluocchi @ gmail dot com.
All the best,
Kathryn
who has been travelling through East and Southern Africa for many years,
I can recommend a travel company called Absolute Africa, they do trips
throughout Africa. These trips are not for everyone as they involve camping and participating in the everyday tasks like cooking for the group,
and travelling on a truck with a group of like minded people. You can look
them up, just Google www.absoluteafrica.com. Hope this is of some help,
Happy travelling, best wishes, Terry.
It's a small group tour (about 20) that we booked through Titan Travel in the UK. We're really excited for it. They will pick us up at my girlfriends house and return us there. We'll be starting in Cape Town, heading up the garden route and ending at a private reserve for the last few days. It's an all inclusive price of airfare, accommodations, tours and most of our meals.
say will be a wonderful trip.
Just a note of caution, I was in Cape Town last October ( 12th time ) and the
atmosphere has changed in as much that mugging are on the increase, I
have never in all the years that I have stayed in Cape Town been as vigilant
as I was then, 3 young girls who were staying at the same backpackers
hostel were robbed just off Kloof Street. It is best to go out in groups, and
avoid the Castle of Goodhope, as that is a hotspot for muggers. I am not
trying to scare you, and I hope that you enjoy what is a beautiful City.
So have a great time, but just be careful, best wishes, Terry.

Is anyone thinking of visiting Patagonia in the new year ?

If that’s too far - I also want to visit the pyramids , and sail along the Nile..
Anyone interested ?
(I'm 64, have solo traveled for 25 years now, beginning at 44, lived in 10 countries solo and many cities within those countries -- I'm a dual citizen so the EU is my playground. I'm moving to Puglia in a month and will be there for a few months deciding where to live next, and am always up for trips! (cheap ones, I'm so not a rich person!) I wrote a book too, about solo female travel 🙂 Working on the sequel. Sorry for the loooooong post!!)
a solo traveler, I am a man aged 75 and I travel mostly through Africa
East and South, I like going on overland trips with like minded people,
We meet up in a start point ( usually Nairobi ) and join the truck, we camp
on camp sites or do a bush camp, we cook for the whole group in teams
of three, so we are on the cook group about once every 8 days, the trips
are varied, but we visit many of the famous game parks and sights like
Victoria Falls.
The company that I travel with is called Absolute Africa you can check
them out on Google if you want to know more.
I have sailed up and down the Nile between Aswan and Luxor on a
traditional dhow, for a few days, but your trip sounds interesting. Anyway
I was pleased to hear from an adventurous person like yourself, and wish
you many more years of travelling this wonderful world, and good luck
with your move to Puglia, best wishes, Terry.
thank you for your reply, I was not expecting one, but was pleased
to hear from you. It’s funny how we travellers cherish our trips to
far flung places, but like you, I am not rich, I only get my pension,
and another from my time in the Army. I don’t drink or smoke so
I am able to save a bit each month, the problem for me is travel
insurance, because of my age and pre existing medical conditions
the premiums are expensive, that is why I have had to curtail my
overland trips to Africa, instead I now travel independently, and
I was in Cape Town last October for 3 weeks, and next February
I hope to go with a friend to Cape Verde or The Gambia, so maybe
something to look forward to.
I was trying to spell the name of the boat that we traveled up and
down the Nile on,( I will try again, here goes, Falucca ) I hope that
means something to you.
Anyway I hope that you continue to enjoy your trips, and I would
be pleased to hear about you future plans. So once again a big
thank you for your reply, take care, best wishes, Terry.
I don't know really how to reply to all, or reply to one, as I'm new (considering my "el nour" comment got posted as a whole new comment instead of an edit!), but yeah while I was responding to your comment, I hope the entire Nile cruise info helps everyone 🙂
Don't smoke, but seeing as how I also write about wine, I do a lot of wine...tasting LOL That's my main expense. Being an EU citizen, I'm covered health-wise in 27 countries so I don't need to really worry much about paying for health insurance. I haven't had to try to use it outside of the EU so I don't know how it actually would work. But most times there is at least some sort of medical coverage either through flight insurance or something akin.
When I was living in Morocco, I wanted to zip down to Cape Verde because it looks so incredibly gorgeous. Didn't get to though 🙁 (pandemic lockdown). Sort of the same thing as I lived in London for three years and Ireland was so so so close, but did I get over to it?? *sigh*
your move to Puglia, I too am moving from here in Southampton to
near Manchester in the first week in July, when I get settled in my
friend and I will start planning our next trip, we are usually both solo
travelers but we met on this site and this will be the first time that we
will travel together, we are deciding on Cape Verde or The Gambia
she has been to Cape Verde once before but I haven’t, but I have no
preference as to which one we manage to get to, it won’t be until
February next year so plenty of time to sort things out.
I hope that you manage to get away yourself, then you can add
another chapter in your follow up book.
So take care, and happy travels, all best wishes, Terry.
I'm a dual US-Italian citizen, with 27 EU countries as my own personal playground; though I'm originally from the US, I've lived in the EU for 25 years now (some of those years being as a teen). I lived in Italy as a teenager and, after going back to the US and living there for 25 years, I took off at 44 years old with nothing to my name, no money and just a couple suitcases, to chase a dream of living back in Italy. Over the following 21 years, I continued traveling solo and have so far lived in 10 countries and at least a couple cities in each. No, I'm not some rich retired person! I was an editor by trade, now retired, and still do some editing and proofing to help supplement my crazy passion for travel. Well, and life and putting food on the table and affording rent, etc. LOL
Having usually kept a type of blog or notebook, friends told me I needed to put it all together into a book. I told them they were nuts, even though writing is also a passion of mine (as you can tell by the fact that I cannot physicall write short posts!). a few years later, When Every Road Whispers My Name was published 🙂 I'm now working on a sequel as I chalked up another couple countries after the final chapter.
Though I'm usually a solo traveler, I don't mind traveling with a couple others, especially because cruising (yep, another major passion and my absolute preferred mode of travel) is crazy expensive with solo supplements. Very few lines (but thankfully some!) have zero single supplement.
Anyway, I'm getting ready to move from Calabria to Puglia (Bari area) in a couple weeks and will settle for the summer and maybe stay a year or so, not sure yet. But it has a port!! And an excellent high-speed train station and a really good airport with local EU flights. I still have so many places on my bucket list!
I'll stop talking now 🙂

I’ve just seen your request for a travel companion. I am interested but for anytime from September onwards. I’m up for most type of holidays and have just posted on the forum for a companion to go to Canada to do the Rocky Mountain tour followed by Alaska cruise.
The reason it needs to be later in the year is I’ve just returned from cruising out of Singapore to Vietnam and Thailand. Horrendous single supplement costs, but sometimes needs must. I would not be interested in India as I have already visited and seen all I wanted to there.
Forgot to say I’m a 71 year old female residing in Shropshire UK
If what I have written is of interest to you please get in touch.
Hopefully hear from you.
Kind regards
Maria
planning to do, they said it was a good holiday. I have been to the Rocky
Mountains in Canada, went with the Army in 1976, the year that the Olympic Games were held in Canada. We 4 is us hired a car and went to
Calgary then on to the Banff and Jasper national parks, wonderful scenery
and pity we only had 4 days to see it all, am not keen on doing a cruise,
prefer terra firma. Anyway my name is Terry, I am 75 years young and am
an avid traveler, I live in Southampton the City where a lot of cruise ships
leave from. I wish you well in your search, and if you ever find that you
would like to travel other than on a ship, would be willing to listen.
Once again good luck, all best wishes, Terry.
Join a tour group or a travel club. These organizations often offer group travel opportunities that can be a good way to meet new people and have a companion for at least part of your trip.
Consider a "singles" cruise or tour. These types of vacations are specifically designed for people traveling solo and can be a good way to meet other like-minded individuals.
Look for a "travel buddy" or travel companion online. There are websites and forums where people who are planning solo trips can connect with others who are looking for a companion.
Consider staying in a hostel rather than a hotel. Hostels often have common areas and organized activities that can be a good way to meet other travelers.
Consider joining a meetup group or taking a class or workshop in the destination you are visiting. This can be a good way to meet people who share your interests and potentially find a travel companion.
It's important to keep in mind that traveling with a companion can have its own set of challenges, and it's important to carefully consider whether or not it is right for you.

Cape Town and have bought a new one. Had to rejoin silver surfers again
but could not use safari an, hence the more mundane user name. Anyway
am back from my trip, had a good time, and weather was fine most of the
time, hope that you are keeping well and have managed to get away for
a while. Have a new email address, but will only give it if you want to chat
again, take care, all best wishes, Terry.
