What are your favourite travel destinations and why?

Sir David Attenborough’s television series Africa has boosted bookings to what used to be known as the Dark Continent.

Where would you choose to travel too and why?

We've been to quite a few places but our favourite has got to be Elounda - a small fishing village in Crete. The people are so friendly - the food is good and the scenery just can't be beaten. When we go back now - it's like going home, as we have so many friends there........ if only I could bottle my view from my balcony and bring it home with me.

My favourite destination is probably Turkey. I love the food and the people are very cheerful and the service is restaurants is excellent. Over the past few years the value has fluctuated a bit but we went last year and I have to say meals and everything else was great value compared to other countries that are in the Euro. The scenery is stunning as well and its one of my dreams to go for a walking holiday by the southern coastline.

I agree I love turkey to, always try to go at least twice a year, always to Olu Deniz can't beat the prices of food etc, although like you said they have gone up a little still wont stop me going!

oh another Turkish vote here, also olu deniz, or more so, hisarouno, its such a fab small town I can walk around alone , talk to the locals, and never feel pressured, usually go all inc but have managed a few meals out and love the typical Turkish restaurant's, we,ve been 12/14 times over the last 6 years and visited many regions, but have to admit, hisarouno remains my favourite, think its going to be the Spanish islands tho next year due mainly to the incidents happening at the moment,

We regularly visit the Murcia region of Spain and the Protaras region of CYPRUS.
I like the familiarity. I love the beaches and my idea of heaven is going to the beach all day...with a cool bag and a book, and enjoying the sun.

I've been winter-travelling alone to Latin America for the past five years; initially to improve my Spanish then simply to discover this amazing world of coast and mountain. I am just back from six weeks in Ecuador. I write it all up in a blog which impels me to think a lot about the environment I travel in. Anyway here is Ecuador. You can have a look at my other travels if you have time. Happy to field questions:

Fell in love with New Zealand when we visited for a 'trip of a lifetime' three years ago. What a truly beautiful country, particularly the South Island where Milford Sound and the Fjordland National Park are magical - You could almost think that nothing had changed there since the days of dinosaurs. The NewZealanders are so friendly, even in Wellington, the capital, where whenever we stood on a street corner with a map getting our bearings, so many people came up to us to ask if we were lost and could they help! Can't say that would happen much in London. would love to back if only to spend more time with cousins who live In Christchurch.

Cornwall. This magical corner of England considers itself to be a country in its own right, and I feel honoured to be able to visit. It is a land of contrasts; gentle waters lapping at sandcastles, or huge turquoise breakers topped with frothy white horses...granite moorland boulders basking in warm summer sunshine, or huddled together against shards of icy winter rain...swathes of green etched with grey stone walling, or laden with gold on a late summer afternoon...trees gnarled and shaped by the west wind, nonetheless bearing myriad emerald leaves, or bent and bare, desolate until spring returns. This is my Cornwall, land of mines and fishing boats, my spiritual home.

Vietnam, its people are some of the most warm and welcoming that I have had the pleasure of meeting. The scenery is marvelous, Halong bay was a real highlight for me as was visiting villages along the Mekong delta.

I've been to quite a few places over the years and solo more recently. I love Italy and Slovenia; Malta also a favourite (been about 14 times now). Egypt was amazing went from Luxor down to Aswan and then onto Abu Simbel and also into Tut's tomb. The Atlas mountains in Morocco :). Turkey is amazing, did a tour starting in Istanbul and ending up in Antalya, stopping at Gallipoli, Troy, Ephesus, Pamukkale, brilliant. In May I went to Hawaii, via Seattle, stayed at Waikiki on O'ahu, then went on to Vancouver (Whistler, Granville Island, Stanley Park) and from there got a cruise ship through Alaska then back to Seattle. Awesome trip. The Norwegian Fjords are stunning. Also like Sweden, Stockholm is very interesting. Absolutely love the USA New Orleans is fantastic, Tupelo, Natchez, Vicksburg, Memphis and Nashville, (anything Elvis), would go again at the drop of a hat. The world is vast, so many stunning places to visit; but, in the UK Dorset, Devon and Cornwall are fabulous too 🙂 Happy travels - I'm off to Santorini next!

Although not widely travelled, I have been to a few places and 2 that are at the top of my list for revisits are Austria and Madeira. I spent holidays 4 years running back in the 70's in the Tyrol and would love to go back to see if it has changed. St Anton was my favourite by far it was so pretty. a Such friendly people, and The Tyrol was jaw droppingly beautiful in parts.
Madeira we went to this year but we were only there for a day in Funchal as we were on our Honeymoon Cruise but we have both said we cannot wait to go back. As we sailed away from the port it was a vision of terracotta and white in the sunshine, something I will never forget.

Thank you Marley444 for your lovely comments. Yes, I agree, just settle into a lovely familiar routine as soon as you walk through the door of your hotel.

We will have a wonderful time in September, and long may it continue.

Many thanks.xx

We have travelled to many places in the world but 4 years ago we found a beautiful hotel in Egypt that ticks all our boxes. It is 5 star, all inclusive and Adult only.!!!! Beautiful pools, 4 of them, and right on the beach. Staff are wonderful and food amazing. We always feel so very special when we visit and get spoilt rotten. We are going back for 2 weeks in September for our 7th visit. Some may say how sad, returning to the same hotel but we have done our travelling now and this hotel is our second home and we are very happy to keep returning for as long as we can. A bonus is only 5 hours flight to get there. Perfect.
Response from Marley444 made on 15th Aug 2015 08:54:37
We are creatures of habit too! Love going back to places we have previously stayed ... then your holiday starts from the second you arrive - no having to work things out etc. Also it's nice to be made to feel welcome and special - nothing wrong with that. When are kids were younger we went to the same ski resort about 7 times - we all knew each run, every restaurant on the pieste and loved it. Now our grown up children want to go back one day with their own children to reminisce and re-live the experience!

Have great time in Egypt in September 🙂

There are many favourite places. i love Scotland and the west coast mountains around Loch Maree. I also like Switzerland especially places like Zermatt and in France Chamonaix in France. Both places are stunning especially in the summer. Beaches-well you cannot beat Saunton Sands and Wollacombe in North Devon but then we went years ago to the Seychelles for one trip to an Island called La Digue. The beaches were white and pristine-only one problem it was very very hot!

Amazing views - from the top of the world!

Grand Canyon - Arizona.

Inspired by the photography of Ansel Adams.

Again amazing views, color and beautiful sunsets.
