What book are you currently reading?

Thought this would be a good place to share your taste in literature! What books have you read recently, what are you reading now and how would rate them? Would you recommend anything to a fellow Silverhairs friend?

Do you use a Kindle or similar or do you prefer a real book to hold?

I have just finished reading the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, which my youngest daughter is studying for โ€˜Aโ€™ Level. It is a devastating, masterful and painfully honest story โ€ฆ it tells the gripping account of a boyhood friendship destroyed by jealousy, fear, and ruthless evil.

The Kite Runner is an astonishing, powerful book that had me riveted from the first to the last page. It is a story of fierce cruelty and yet redeeming love, as well as of an intimate account of family and friendship.

I found it compelling and disturbing and opened my eyes to how evil reigns in the Middle East. Next on my list is A Thousand Splendid Suns written by the same author.

How about you?

Hi, at the moment I'm reading "The People's Queen" by Vanora Bennett it's okay a bit heavy going but enjoyable. I'm not keen on what I term as heaving bosoms and bodice ripping ๐Ÿ˜ฅ I like historical stories, my daughter bought me Crickly Hall (its been on t.v)

I'm currently reading EAGLE TRAP by Geoffrey Archer without doubt the greatest story teller in the world, I've read most of his novels and often read them twice over, I also like Jack Higgins and James Patterson.

If you like crime novels I would recommend all of Stephen Booth's books, but you need to start with the very first one 'Black Dog' as they build the characters of DC Cooper and DS Fry throughout. We've had interesting partnerships such as Daziel & Pascoe, Morse & Lewis etc., so if you liked them you will like these two; though they are diametrically opposed. Stephen Booth constructs his stories well, all based in the lovely Peak District, and though dark subjects he can be hilariously funny aswell.

I'm reading another Sophie Kinsella book, Shopaholic and sister. Love the easy reading of her books and the laugh out loud moments in them.
I've got loads of books to get through, so roll on the winter and some wet and dark days.

Currently reading "The Casual vacancy" by J.K. Rowling on my Kindle, but I still like reading proper books & have 1356 by Bernard Cornwell lined up for my next read. Use my Kindle as I travel a lot & it takes up infinite less room than real books, but you can't beat a good page-turner when you can actually turn the pages!!

I am a complete reading fanatic and never go anywhere without a book.

I have just finished reading The Man Who Disappeared by Clare Morrall which I thought was really good. I am now reading Where Three Roads Meet by Salley Vickers and Carte Blanche by Jeffrey Deaver, which is one of the new James Bond books.

I have a Kindle but, to be honest, I tend to use it mainly when we're away. I wouldn't be without it, but I still love real books.

Having bought a kindle I find myself reading a lot more than I have done in years. Yes I have read the 50 shades of grey/darker/and freed. and would recomend every man to read these books. It might just show you what you have or have not missed. The only thing I hated was the Americanisms.:-)

Reading my way through two boxes of books acquired at the Lion Bookshop in Alnwick which were donated by Val McDermid - 42 of them all told - espionage, whodunnits etc. Am also reading Lorna Doone as I collect the books in the Readers Digest series Worlds Greatest Readings. I have a one bedroom flat with 2000+ books in it. Love secondhand bookshops, book bargains, new books, old books, the smell of books and anything whatsoever to do with books. I also have a Kindle with 140 books on it and I wouldn't be without because there are always times where a hard copy is not appropriate or available but a Kindle goes everywhere. No one was more against them than me but you're never too old to change your mind. I was against them till I tried one for a couple of days. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm busy with "The Kindness of Strangers" which is the autobiography of Kate Adie war correspondent for the BBC.
I do not own a Kindle and am not keen on getting one, I love the feel of books and the sight of a crammed bookshelf bursting
with all types of books. I also love browsing the local market and charity shops and often find a hidden gem, like the one I am reading for under ยฃ2.00

I've just finished "Master and God" by Lindsey Davis. It's not one of the Falco series but a standalone, set in the time of the unbalanced and dangerous Emperor Domitian. It follows the lives and relationship of Vinius, heavily scarred and world weary praetorian guard and Lucilla, hairdresser to the Emperor's family. It's well written (like all of Davis's books) and I enjoyed it very much.
