Has anybody had a doctor lie to cover a mistake?

Hi I have got a large open wound to my right leg as a result of a doctor giving a wrong injection that gave me compartment syndrome at first I thought I was just unlucky the problem is that was 10 years ago and about 30 operations but the wound will not heal i am now a carrier of MRSA another thing is my medical records got mixed up with someone with the same name then to top that the doctor accused me of preventing the wound from healing no doctor looks at the wound any more when I get the wound infected I phone the GP he then just gives me antibiotics without even seeing me my leg is now so painful I just don't know what to do next has anybody had the same or similar problem?

I would suggest that you ask your GP to see a specialist for a second opinion first. If you feel you have a problem regarding your treatment then you can have your case looked at by the patient experience team at your local hospital and if this doesn't work out, or, you dont accept the outcome of the patient experience team you can go to the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman and/or the General Medical Council. You can find addresses and contact numbers on line. If you go through something called healthwatch I think they offer patient representatives too.
good luck

Did the doctor state he gave you the wrong injection and that led to compartment syndrome (its an unusual way of developing this condition) in which case how did he lie to you? Dottydiva's advice is good to follow, particularly as your GP isn't being supportive. The Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman would be good in these situations. I would advise you to write to the Chief Executive of the hospital concerned even if it has been 10 years (send a copy to your GP) your argument would be that when it first happened you didn't know what the final outcome would be. If you have no or unsatisfactory response then seek legal advice but be careful who you choose, to prove medical negligence you have to be able to prove breach of duty of care and that isn't always easy and you have already suffered.

Incidentally, Ginntonic isn't completely correct, MRSA also occurs in private hospitals but they often then transfer you to an NHS hospital for treatment of the MRSA.

Good luck and hope this has helped.

Sorry it is a long time to answer but it is hard to trust lawyers it hard to trust anybody at this moment in time i have a infection in my leg. all the advice i get seems to be the same.
Trust is hard to find' even when I go to my GP they just give me antibiotics but i have been given so many in hospital most have run there time and now just don't work.
At this moment i have yet another infection that makes it almost impossible to walk let alone do anything that i thought at this age i had contemplated doing is just filled with despair and isolation so i am sorry for being negative and I will stop bothering people,
Thank's for the time that members had taken.
But things are not very good at the moment and I find it hard to have the stamina to talk so at this point in time I will go through this infection and hope that MRSA is not present as I have got it 5 times and i have to carry a card to show incase of a accident and they say i can pass it to other people.
Big joke is I caught it in hospital.

Get legal advice. Also go to your doctor and ask to be referred to a private hospital on the NHS as part of your right to choose your care option. They should be able to help you without the worry of MRSA. My daughter had eye surgery at a large NHS hospital and it got infected. She still has the deep scars. The doctor said later, when he finally admitted he cutter her eye lid too deep that she had contracted MRSA. The hospital said they could try to fix it with plastic surgery but it would cost her £2k. She got legal advice and the hospital agreed to pay for the surgery at a private clinic. Don't give up.

I agree you need to get legal representation over the way your Doctor has treated you. Though I believe if you can use it honey is supposed to be good for open wounds the best one being Manuka, expensive but sterile honey has been used in treating open wounds. Hope this helps.

Perhaps you should speak to a lawyer that deals with cases of medical negligence?
