Heart problem

Just been diagnose with an irregular heartbeat ( arterial fibrillation) and have to see a Cardiologist with a view to having my heart shocked back into a regular heartbeat. Has anyone had the same problem and if so, did it do the trick?

Hello George, Ray from the US. I've been a CrossFit Coach over the past 10 years and in that time I had 2 clients that had the same issue. One of my clients was going in almost monthly to get shocked back into normal heart rhythm. Scary stuff watching him do the intensity based workouts with the condition. He finally went in for surgery to try and correct the issue. I think it was called an "ablation" procedure. After the surgery, he never had another episode and he continues to do Crossfit although we still keep a close eye on him. The other client who had the condition had 1 or 2 shocks and it did the trick. We also watch him closely as well. Good luck and hope this helps!

Hi, sorry to hear about your diagnosis but better to know about it and have it treated than have it lurking in the background with the possibility of it causing more serious problems in the future. If you have a look at the British Heart Foundation website (https://www.bhf.org.uk) they have various leaflets and booklets, which you can download, that will give you all the information (in layman's language) you need about AF and the different treatments. If you read the information and make a note of questions you want answering you will be well prepared for your appointment with the cardiologist. Good luck!
