Hi I'm 64. Hope everyone is happy and healthy today. Busy 50% of time but lonely and bored rest of time. I live alone and haven't been well for a few days. so have gone from very independent to feeling bit vulnerable. Really hope this feeling passes soon.. Looking forward to exploring the site and making new friends.

Hello All. I have just joined and like Charles I spent recent months in south America but am now back in the UK having missed the highest peak of the dreaded cv. As my main interest apart from writing and travel is dancing I find the lockdown particularly repressive of my usual social life and spend longer than usual watching good movies (aka films when I grew up) on Netflix. As I am 66 and out of big organisations for five years I have a good quality of life and enjoy conversation with people who have a real interest in things big or small. Like many others I suppose the lockdown back here in Blightly has compelled me to pay attention to my long neglected garden and to excavate the knowledge I once had of plants and things growing. Literature and writing, including philosophy, religion, history etc all of great interest as well as poetry so anyone who would like to chat generally or specially please drop me a line or just continue the conversation here. All the best.

Response from Charlesb made on 14th Jun 2020 02:54:53 > @SuzySioux
Hi Suzy and what a beautiful name and I will be proud to have a name like that. It is my first time in a site like this and actually I registered in Silversufers perhaps I am bored. At the moment I am not in U.K.. I am in Panama, was traveling in Central America for the last 2 years. Before the coranavirus started I was planing to return to U.K. but it did not happen. Then everything came to a standstill. Panama acted very fast when the coranavirus hit USA. Panama imposed whole day curfew since end of February we under curfew. They shut the Airport and no comercial flight in and out of Panama. They take it serious and protect us with curfew and only controlled and restricted time out to do grocery shopping. By acting fast Panama minimize the damage from coranavirus. Panama Government hopes to open the Airport by end of this month. They want to start with comercial flights very slowly. I hope by July or August to be back in U.K. I am enjoying here, I am in a remote area and I do not notice that the world is suffering from a pandemic until I watch the news. I have hot sunny weather I lay in my hammock the whole day dreaming. When I leave I will miss the sun, the food, fruit, the country, the Panamanians, and naturally my hammock. I love to travel and love to see other cultures. Before coming here I was in a Greek Island called Evia for about an year. So that is enough about me. boring I would say.
How about you, do you travel.? I can understand empty nest syndrome it would drive me mad.. wow beautiful country side I am a keen photographer, do you take pictures. ? Do you have only your Son? I have 2 grown up children they live in Germany, you maybe asking why in Germany because I lived in Germany 30 years. I have a granddaughter too 3 years old. I am divorced long time ago but I have a very good contact to my children we visit very often. Is your son studying?Mothers always love their sons don’t I know that I love kids .you are right, you have to find a little bit of time for your friends.
I hope I am not boring you with a long message.
Hoping to hear from you again.
Please take care and be safe.
Charles

Hi, I think you forget how to communicate spending so much time alone, don't get me wrong I quite like my life, my daughters on holiday so I drove to hers and put the bins in,( last year someone tried to break in), she lives about 6miles from me, one neighbour then no one for about 1\2 mile, it was lovely 3 deers jumped out a little way in front of me as I got there, we go for some lovely walks, but that's not really socialising
Regards Jenny
Response from Charlesb made on 29th Aug 2020 17:58:53 > @Jennymp
Hi Jenny is this message for me? Because I did not speak about socializing, I am a bit puzzled with your answer? Anyway interesting to know what you have written, it seems a lovely place where your daughter lives to see deers jumping in front of you. It is certainly better than city lives. Unfortunately thieves are every where I think even if you go the moon you will find thieves. It is not only virus you have to think about humans too because they are capable of behaving like a virus.

Be safe and take care

Regards
Charles

Yes just as I thought, now I have replied to the editor the box has now reappeared to the original person (who in this case is Andy). It was not there before though, and people will not know they have to reply to the editor first.

Just an observation.

Thanks

Just an observation I have noticed that when the lovely editor says welcome to a new message, the reply box to that original person disappears.

This could stop direct replies getting to that person. If they are just typed in the forum they may not receive an alert email.

Perhaps it is glitch in the system that could be improved. It might be that now I have done this message replying back to the editor the box will reappear to the original persons. I will press the send button now and see.

That would mean that the original person has to reply to Sally for the reply box to them to reappear. I will see what happens now.

Hello Kate53, hope you meet some friends on here. It seems quite a good website for chatting. My husband works away all week, so I know about being lonely, though my 2 cats do a great job of keeping me company. I like reading too - great escapism. I always have a little library of books so I don't run out.

Hi everyone. Only just joined the other day. Still finding my way around the site.

I live on my own, so do get a bit lonely at times. Mainly weekends, when we live a normal life but at present, I don't know one day from the next.

I live in the beautiful town of Shrewsbury, although born in Birmingham.

I am hoping to make new friends. One can never have enough.

I am a normal down to earth person, with a young outlook on life and love nothing better than a good laugh. I usually laugh at myself but hey ho, who cares.

Hi Nartane,
Nice to meet you. It’s raining here in New York, but that should resolve itself in a couple hours. I get a chance to walk a lot and cycle as my friend pushes me to stay in shape. Some days there is not enough Tylenol in the medicine cabinet! I read many books and stay active with grandchildren and my wife who is a little younger than I and still works full-time. Feel free to write back.

Hi Kate, although I have been a member here for some time, now this is the first time I have commented on the Forum.
Because I have been stopped from playing golf, because of you know what, I have plenty of time on my hands . I enjoy gardening and have an allotment.
I enjoy reading also, (150+ books on my iPad), mostly thrillers, but I am now on my second attempt at reading Bleake House by Charles Dickens. I find it hard going, such long sentences. Will I finish it ???.
We are just finishing another week of glorious sunshine here, but I am sure you are used to that in Cyprus. I have Travelled many parts of the world but not your island.
Keep up the chatting.
Response from Kate53 Original Poster made on 26th Apr 2020 13:27:12
Hi ... This has stopped us all in our tracks sadly, hopefully it won't be too long before we get back to normal, whatever normal is
I'm getting through books like there's no tomorrow, but I love reading, so that's OK... I've just had to order a load more...
I'm very limited in what I can do... I don't live in Cyprus so I'm guessing you have replied to the wrong person... Its easy done and I'm still trying to find my way around here

Take care

Hi Kate,
I’m Bruce from Upstate New York. Happily married also with grandchildren keeping us hopping. Newly retired. Wife, younger, still working. Both of us in the Healthcare field. Reading a lot. Mostly Nordic thrillers. Also UK and surrounding countries detective stories. Also cycling and trying to stay healthy with this ‘stay at home protocol. Had snow last weekend. 70 degrees today. Love to hear from others outside of USA. So much to see and learn.
Response from Larger made on 19th May 2020 20:24:42 > @Bruce9999
Hello Bruce, always happy to hear from someone from across the pond. Well your 70 degrees has landed over here and being a person that loves gardening I am praying for rain.(Hopefully coming on Friday). I have been to the States a number of times, my brother lives in Lubbock,Texas, Been to Las Vegas 3 times and each time it was different. We did travel around the New England states in the year of the Atlanta Olympics. What an area to be in in the Fall.
We are now into our 8th week of lock down, but things are easing, I am going to play golf Thursday, Yippee. My wife and I have been walking twice a week and working on our allotment, (vegetable garden) It gets us outside. I managed to finish reading Bleak House by Charles Dickens and now reading a Jeffery Archer thriller. I can recommend his books to you.
I have to call on Amazon for more books, I like to read historical mystery books, learned about the Great London Fire and Plague of the 1660s, it was worse than Covid19, (Caught it on Sunday-Dead on Monday). I'll leave you with that thought. Nice to hear from you.
Response from Bruce9999 made on 11th Jun 2020 11:52:15
Hi Larger,
Things are lifting over here in upstate New York. Getting out and about a nice change. Have not read Jeffrey archer books yet, as I have been reading Icelandic mysteries as of late. I have also enjoyed Peter May and his black house trilogy based in Scotland. We have never been to Europe and hope to do so in the near future. From reading so many books from Norway, Iceland, Scotland and other interesting areas, it is hard to pin down exactly where to go first New England is where we spend a lot of our time, especially the Maine coast and up into nova Scotia. Stay well and enjoy books
