Hi, I' m 70 and I'm a retired teacher but I did work for 10 years for Tescos as a checkout assistant but last November they made me and about 10 other older colleagues redundant as they said that we had to multitask and not just do checkouts. That's O.K. if you're fully fit and can bend up and down and get on your knees all day long which I couldn't as I was suffering from non alcoholic liver cirrosis, but Tescos don't give a shit. They even have me a large bottle of whisky as leaving present....think about it ? We were all on contracts as well. They replaced us all with young kids on no contract basic wages So much for loyalty and hard work. Considering that the Tescos staff have worked through the whole pandemic and haven't received any bonus from the gold digging management who've made astronomical profits. That's typical.

So sorry to hear that Tania, I was made redundant at 57 but that was in far better times, it took some getting used to but after a few months I realised it was the best thing that could have happened to me. I hope you bounce back and things work out just as well for you.
