Winter fuel payments - have you had yours yet?

Last year I received my winter fuel payment Nov 21; has anybody got theirs yet as I haven't? Just wondering. Neil

No wonder you don't need it living in Portugal. May be after brexit it won't be sent to people living overseas any more.
Response from Rayot made on 2nd Jan 2021 15:09:52
They stopped the allowance to us three years ago after many of us told our MPs that it was not necessary in some countries.

So many people are desperate to collect money they don`t really need. I was a recipient of 200 pounds a year which I didn`t actually need. I gave it to WaterAid, a charity which provides water for those who need it.
Response from Wilf made on 1st Jan 2021 15:10:24
That is a really kind thing to do!
Response from Lumixcam made on 1st Jan 2021 15:37:47 > @Wilf
I do not grasp where the idea is coming from that people on here who are asking about payments do not really need it. That is one huge assumption to make and totally devoid of facts.
Response from Marieclaire made on 1st Jan 2021 16:08:27 > @Lumixcam
I totally agree. Those people who post those comments are fortunate that they really don't need it. But why post comments like that in the first place I really don't see the point. We're still waiting for one of our payments by the way.

No, Wilf, not kind of me, just honest. Millionaires are getting the allowance !
Response from Rayot made on 1st Jan 2021 17:49:21 > @Marieclaire
I posted the comment about some people not needing the allowance because I hate greediness especially when it deprives the needy.
Response from Lumixcam made on 1st Jan 2021 18:11:10 > @Rayot
Why do you assume that people on this site are greedy ? It implied that you were complaining about people on the site who are waiting for payments. Is it your place to decide who is "needy" ?

In reality no one should need these payments, just stop the greed from the private sector and make the bills affordable. Payments help pensioners but what about working people on low wages who are being screwed over ?
Response from Lumixcam made on 1st Jan 2021 18:18:09 > @Marieclaire
When I phoned they were aware of the payment due date but are not aware that it was not sent. For this reason you should phone in case it has not been sent. We had 3 "due dates" which all failed and they were not aware of this.

If people do not want the payment then there is no point coming here and telling those who are waiting !!!
Response from Rayot made on 1st Jan 2021 18:20:23 > @Lumixcam
I refer to "some" people. People who are wealthy.
Response from Marieclaire made on 1st Jan 2021 19:07:07 > @Lumixcam
Thank you will do give it a try. Using a lot more resources in this cold spell its getting very expensive!
Response from Rayot made on 2nd Jan 2021 11:09:12 > @Lumixcam
You see those massive houses who need gardeners to maintain their gardens, well the owners also get the heating allowance even when they spend their winters in warmer countries.
Response from Rayot made on 2nd Jan 2021 11:37:39 > @Marieclaire
Many people would like the allowance paid only to those fuel is paid by a metre then it could be simply paid by credit straight into their metre.

IF YOU THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA PLEASE WRITE TO YOU MEMBER of PARLIAMENT (as I intend to do)
Response from Rayot made on 2nd Jan 2021 12:22:54 > @Marieclaire
Do you have to pay for your fuel by metre ?
Response from Rayot made on 2nd Jan 2021 14:58:24 > @Lumixcam
Do you visit food banks ?

I have just written to my ex UK MP suggesting that the some payments are not needed and that the allowance should be paid directly into the metres of those people who have to pay for their fuel this way.

Will you please do likewise. The Government could increase the payments enormously.

Patcaf, You make my point perfectly. You say that you do not live in the UK but it was a "pleasant surprise" to get the allowance.

Yes, I suppose if people are visiting food banks they need the Winter Fuel Allowance.
Response from Lumixcam made on 1st Jan 2021 18:23:08
They have to be that poor to need it ?

I see that many recipients of the Winter Fuel Allowance don`t really need it.
Response from Lumixcam made on 1st Jan 2021 12:00:05
Rayot. Why do you think it is not needed ?
Response from Rayot made on 1st Jan 2021 17:45:16 > @Lumixcam
It is not needed by most middle-class people, and it certainly isn`t need by people earning a lot of money. Do you realise it is being paid to very wealthy people who actually live abroad ? It should be paid to the needy not the greedy.

I have not received a letter or money to date so will have to wait now till after Christmas till I contact some one I usually receive mine in November,is anyone else in the same boat.
Response from Lumixcam made on 22nd Dec 2020 20:20:01
Our first letter had a major error. My payment has now arrived but my wife is still waiting. There seems to have been a lot of delays this year. The DWP did say to contact them if no payment was received by 23 Dec 2020 but that is now changed to 13 Jan 2021.
Response from Lumixcam made on 30th Dec 2020 15:52:48
Have you received your payment yet ?
Response from CindyS3 made on 30th Dec 2020 15:57:02 > @Lumixcam
No have not received a thing, keep checking my bank but nothing,no letter no money I tried contacting them but keep getting recording then disconnected.
Response from Lumixcam made on 1st Jan 2021 12:06:19 > @CindyS3
When you phone press the option for "make a claim". They will answer and deal with missing payments but you may wait for nearly an hour before they speak.

Do the electric / gas company real need to charge so much ? Do their shareholders really need their bonus ? If you are a rich Tory boy then fine but many people are not.

5 phone calls to the DWP.
3 hours on the phone.
4 promised payment dates.
1 apology from a DWP manager.
1 unusual situation, they blame the new computer and not the virus. How refreshing.
Today the missing payment for my wife arrived !
Proof indeed that hard work can produce results.

Keep at it, do not let the ........ grind you down !

Payment not arrived for my wife.
4 phone calls to DWP.
2.5 hours holding the phone to get an answer.
3 promised payment dates.
Still no payment.
No answer to emails.
Do not waste time phoning, they are liars and will say anything to get rid of you.
We now accept there will be no payment.
Response from Lumixcam made on 30th Dec 2020 09:53:26

Phone calls can involve waiting between 20 to 50 minutes to be answered. Perhaps it will be easier later on as more payments will have been made, live in hope !

Today made my total count of phone calls to the DWP to 4 ! My payment did arrive but the payment that should have been sent to my wife on 10 Dec has still not arrived. Reason given was that it should have been sent on 10 Dec but for "some reason" it was not sent, they now say it will be sent on 30 Dec.

I was given the same reason when mine was late, the "should be" date did not happen for "some reason" !!

Does some dozy office junior have his / her finger on the computer button that launches the nukes, please no, just let them sort out the virus / Brexit / M20 truck park .

My wife had a letter saying she would be sent £200 as she is living alone when we usually have £100 each ! I phoned and they found the problem and agreed to amend the details.
No money arrived.
Phoned again and they said mine was sent on 26 Nov, when I said it had not been received they checked and said that it had not been sent but they did not know why.
Promised mine would be sent on 22/12/20.
Told that my wife's payment was sent on 10/12/20, so where is it ?
That is three problems so far. First problem was "computer error"
Now we wait for "its the virus" then "Brexit problem" followed by "Trump's fault"
What chance now of ever seeing this money ?
Response from BarryW2 made on 17th Dec 2020 20:18:28 > @Lumixcam
it does not surprise me of their comments as they all have different comments as i said in my post. i suggest you write to your mp and a letter to the pm,staing that unless they pay you what you r entitled to then you will take as i will ,the matter further, iwill be very surprised if those that r promised payment to be paid,my by dec 23rd are paid.,my thoughts on this is the gov have paid out so much on covid 19 they r trying to hold on to any further payments due to people like us hoping that some will just not bother in chasing it and may re register...as a retired jp i can assure you that if you r legally entitled to it and have the evidence that you r entitled to it you have nothing to lose, for if i did take them to court it would cost them court costs aswell as bad publicity..and that for sure is something they would not like esp as it involves pensioners who r now in this cold damp weather need the money now not in year 2o21.it deoesnt matter how many calls you make to them the more the better as they r free calls and if all others who are also effected do the same thing,i have also sent details to the press to see if they publish it .....i hope you do receive what you deserve but dont give up ,keep fighting im sure if you owed them taxes they would for sure be on your back but now the tables have turned they owe us.so keep at it and let me know how you do if you want.

This morning a great honour was bestowed upon me. With great pride I can announce that I was chosen to receive a letter stating that a payment will be sent to me. No money yet and no letter for my wife but I am still overcome with emotion to have been sent a letter. It is not a knighthood or elevation to the peerage but I still feel wonderful to have been sent a letter at last.
Response from BarryW2 made on 18th Dec 2020 11:09:59 > @Lumixcam
maybe the queen should know lol. please to hear it ,may say if you havent received it by the 23 dec tel them....more patience i feel.but good luck..i hope all others will take the advice and tel them, write whatever to make sure in the end they achieve the objective of getting paid.
Response from Lumixcam made on 18th Dec 2020 12:14:56 > @BarryW2
Letter states I should contact them if it is not paid by 13 January 2021. The web site also has this extended date so they must be aware of problems. Now we have to wait for payment, suffer what is coming with Brexit, put up with the virus and survive the annual horror of Xmas.
Response from BarryW2 made on 18th Dec 2020 12:49:47 > @Lumixcam
most letters state dec 23rd now they have gone up few ,weeks more.as far as im concerned no payment by Dec 23 and all the false stories i have been given wi ll result in me issuing a summons to that dept as a matter of principal and respect.having said that i hope you get it sooner that jan 13.
i wish you the compliments of the season and lets hope a better 2021.

i finally managed at 8.15 am this morning got through to the help line for winter fuel payments, i asked the women i spoke to why i haven't received mine as for years i got it in November, she said they have a new system and it is taking a while for things to get through, she took my NI number and asked questions told me i shall get my money now by the 23rd December with or without a letter, i think they need people to phone as the system seems to have lost information on us hope this helps also phone where you get your pension from their help line not the national one
