Calling all fellow Open University

Any other OU students out there? I know it is now quite expensive in England but sure there must be some of you out there. I have been an OU student since 1999 and still have lots of modules I would like to study.. What are you studying and are you enjoying keeping your brain active?!

Hello everyone,
I got to 50 this year and as someone much wiser than I said ‘it’s certainly better than the alternative’ like most everyone I’ve had an up and down life and this year has been not so great..my mother passed away in heart breaking circumstances and I’m just reconvening from a major operation.
Last year I sold my house and was all ready to finally start my life but it’s been taken over. I’m hoping to be in the position to be well enough in the new year to start again.
I’m had an arranged marriage, widowed, had to look after my son and Parents but me it’s my turn.
I’ve read the posts on the Open University and would love to study and do all that I couldn’t when I was younger...getting engaged at 14 was not my plan... I’d like to find a study buddy and someone who will help me to discover my passion in life...I mean work wise...in exchange I promise to make you laugh till your belly hurts and cook marvellous Indian food on a regular basis. I’m based in zone 4 and happy to travel,
Much love

Hi lizcleuch, I am a former OU student, I did not enjoy Science at school though always had an interest in Biology. The OU changed all that, I had some great material and tutors and went onto qualify for a BSc (Hons), and until a few years ago was teaching English for Technical Purposes in Germany. I have updated my teaching qualification but am finding it an uphill struggle to find any work back in UK.

Hi lizcleuch, I'm an ex OU student. My now ex-husband was in the RAF and because we travelled about constantly with the military, it was the only way I could study. I started my degree in Germany in the mid 1980s and just carried on with it wherever we ended up posted to. Cost a fortune to keep flying back to the UK to do the obligatory Summer Schools, on top of paying for the courses themselves, and had to study totally on my own with not being in the UK, but I really enjoyed it. I studied mainly Art History and History courses, also a course on Feminism, and one on Religion which was very useful for the Art History courses.
