Hi everyone,

I'm new today - not usually stuck for words, but not sure what to say next!
I guess where I live is a starter ......in South Ayrshire by the sea. I have enjoyable hobbies which mean I meet lots of people, but having moved here from England 7 years ago I still am in need of friendships that are a bit more meaningful than what I have at present. So rather than silently moan about it I have decided it is up to me to reach out, make more contact with people, and who knows, hopefully make a friend or two.

I haven't filled out a profile of 'interests' yet. Tried to, but for some reason the site would not respond to that button - or maybe it was me not doing something I needed to?!

Anyway, I would be happy to tell you more if anyone is kind enough to be interested!!

Hi Jackie,
You live in a lovely part of Scotland and I envy your proximity to the sea and being able to walk on the beach every day. A lot of my ancestors (great-great parents) came from the south-west of Scotland and my elder daughter and I had a lovely few days in Portpatrick exploring the area. What made you move to Scotland? I live in the southern end of North Yorkshire near to Selby - have a Leeds postcode but pay my rates to Selby! I've made loads of friends since joining my local U3A - we have over 500 members and many interest groups which I can dip in and out of as the fancy takes me. Are you managing to navigate round the SS website? I find it practically impossible on my iPad but easy on my PC so am not sure what that's all about - probably something to do with having to hold maps upside down when travelling south!!! 🙂 I like to look at the latest posts on the forum to see what's going on, then jump in and comment on things that take my fancy. Speakers Corner is usually good as well although some subjects seem to bring out the worst in people with lots of red thumbs down displayed!

Hello, everyone

I just joined. I live in the US, in New York State. I like to travel, and my main purpose in joining is to get to know people in various locations who share my interests.

I'm happy to talk to anyone, but am particuarly hoping to make friends who would also like to share information about where they live, and possibly meet up during my travels.
I'm not looking for any relationship except friendship.

Is anyone going to the Keith Emerson tribute concert in Birmingham this summer?
A friend and I will be attending, then also stopping in Brighton, Edinburgh and London.

Hello From Aberdeen

New member today, would like to hear from others for chats etc.

I am retired have lots of time on my hands, but also have lots of hobbies mainly indoor stuff, need to get out and about more!

I have traveled around Europe by Train from Aberdeen got as far as Budapest on last trip and have been to the highest Railway Station in Eu at 11,300 feet.

however traveling alone is not much fun, would be good to meet others looking to share Time and company for some adventures

I am planning to do Aberdeen to Penzance on a non change train outbound but for some reason
you need to chage three times on the way back

I also like driving and hoping to do the NS500 at some point

Happy to hear from all

Weldome Abzman. Is the station the one on top of the Eiger? We went there some years ago which was expensive but an amazing experience!

Hi Mike. I'm new too and don't even have a profile - still navigating my way around the website. Must fix that! I lived in the Highlands for five years and was gutted when I had to move back to the East of England two years ago. - but I'll be back! I am also a bit of a twitcher and enjoy photography (although I can't afford a decent camera) and I play video games far too much. Hope to speak to you again soon 🙂

This is a great site with lots of information and ideas to try out. I enjoy a variety of hobbies from caring for my Fox Red Labrador called Orlando to visiting the theatre and cinema on a fairly regular basis.

Hi Nancy
Welcome to communication and information in the tech age.Private chats are a good way of getting to know strangers ,like having pen pals but no need for stationary. The forum has lots of interesting topics but some of the posts go back years. Just go round in circles for a while until you find the bits you like.

Hi everyone - have been off line for the last couple of weeks due to horrendous dental issues. As my dentist said 'it's one of the downsides to getting older' ..... something else no-one tells you about! There must be positives to ageing - wish I knew what they were !

Hi Mike. Wow that is some move. I to joined out of curiosity, and am still trying to find my way around. I had my first trip to Scotland last year and am hoping to get up there again this year. Have been put off in the past by talk of midges and rain, but the weather was glorious and hardly a midge in sight although I did wait until October to visit. . . I am in to nature conservation and so am getting better at recognising birds etc. I take lots of photos and play about with photoshop and would be lost without my computer. I also use my photographs for my watercolour painting. I live in the Staffordshire Moorlands which is a very beautiful area so I try to get out as much as I can.
Response from ecarg made on 25th Feb 2017 14:03:14
Glad you like Scotland,Staffordshire is lovely too lots of photo opportunities ,I wish I had the talent to paint water colours .I hope to holiday in the Highlands in Apr.I live in Dumfries and Galloway which is worth a visit, a tour up the west coast is peaceful people tend to keep going until they reach Glasgow and beyond.
Response from tapping made on 26th Feb 2017 22:53:38
Well the thing about water colour is that it is very hit and miss and at the moment I would say I miss more than I hit. Have looked at staying around Troon,as my volunteer leader worked in the area for a time, but I really want to complete the Fort William to Mallaig train journey.
Response from ecarg made on 27th Feb 2017 09:19:08
Yes I have heard it is spectacular . I.'ve been on the Carlisle to Settle line which goes over the Ribblehead Viaduct but when your'e on the train the view isn't as good as viewing it from the road and as we are talking about Scotland if you do go on the Settle line don;t stop at Carlisle another 1/2 hr and your in Dumfries and Galloway.
Response from tapping made on 27th Feb 2017 15:05:39
Did the last 6 or 7 stations up to Fort William last year as part of the coach trip I was on. The scenery was amazing and I have heard the next part is even better. I volunteer in the Churnet Valley and love to see the trains. There is something magical about being beside the canal and seeing a steam train go by.

Maybe in times gone by, it had more use than now. Perhaps for freight.

And don't tell anybody. But I still go trainspotting. 😮
Response from ecarg made on 19th Feb 2017 13:40:07
Nearly 2yrs. on do you still go train spotting? I would love to travel on a steam train again ,my Dad took me train spotting on the Watercress Line in Hampshire in the 1960's.He also had a huge model railway building the trucks, scenery and buildings himself. It took over my bedroom when I got married one way of making sure I couldn't return home.

Hello people. My first foray into the chat zone. I'm interested to know if there are any male (not to be sexist!) salsa dancers in the Perthshire area?

Hi Mike, I'd love to bird-watch too...when I'm done with work. For now, I'm still trying to find out if there's some bird watching group in Hong Kong that I could join. Meantime, I enjoy (& follow) this site https://www.instagram.com/the.world.birds/. Simply amazing...the birds in all their colours. Cheers...
